Peter, That's nice little composition, well done. The only thing I might do is darken the piping and chevrons down a bit as they look to be way too light.~Gary

I agree with Gary on the piping/chevrons, but overall, I'd give it a 9/10

What I like is not the paint, on this lifeful scene, that is the authentic body language of this black guys. Absolutly captured.

Thanks for your kind comments guys
I hear what you say about the piping and chevrons Gary I must admit that I lightened them a bit to give a better contrast with the dark blue of the uniform it may not be historically quite acurate but I think it improves the composition.
Ulrich your comment that you can hear the talking gives me a lot of satisfaction

    Peter,

The scene is very convincing and quite believable. The figures come to life in your setting, well done!

What did you use for the flesh tones?

The vignette is painted in oils. The basic flesh colour is vandyke brown with a touch of golden ochre, highlights were achieved by adding more golden ochre and flesh tint, the deepest shadows were achieved by adding blue black to the mixture The figures are largely made with magic scupt, the heads are 2 historex 1 michael roberts the palmetto is andrea

Peter - Extremely well done! I completely agree with the others - very believable. You captured the body language eloquently - not an easy thing to do at all!!!

    All the best,
    Dan
