Good evening, I’m new to miniature figures and look forward to being a part of this community

I’ve worked on various models in the past, cars, sci-fi etc. Looking to try something different
I recently bought a 75mm figure, Ch’n-Han one of the Five Cyclones from Modelland.it
I wanted to find out what size plinth anyone could recommend to buy for this size figure.
I’m going thru the acrylic paints I have to see what is still viable.

I’ve looked around in the forums and I wanted to see what recommendations y’all might have on a good pin vise to buy. I need to drill into the foot on this figure to be able to put it on a plinth or temporary base to work on it. Do you recommend a paper clip or something else to secure the figure?

Welcome on board Anne, brilliant to have you joining the Planet Community.
Tamiya have a good pin vise for larger figures & I have a good micro size one for smaller figures.
I use paperclips as main method to pin figures from 1:35 - 1:16
Trust that helps & feel free to keep asking questions :)

Look forward to updates in a V Bench thread

(turned pics for you ...always happy to help)

Good advice from Mike as always ......I've used a paper clip when painting smaller pieces like pouches etc on a bust prior to full build

    Happy benchtime

Welcome to the Planet, Anne! I look forward to seeing your work!

To you question about pinning-I use a plain vanilla, double-ended pin vise like this one:

I got mine at a HobbyTown, I think, and you can find them other hobby or craft stores, and online. It works fine for me for pinning figures for handling, or assembly.

As far as pinning material goes, it depends on the scale of the figure, and how much material there is for me to drill into. With 54mm figures, I've used straight pins, clipping off as much as I need. For larger figures, paper clip wire works, and I also have brass rod stock in various diameters. I use that more for pinning parts together when necessary. I also salvage the wire handles from Chinese takeout containers, straighten them, and then use that material, too.

Others will have their own advice and preferences, too, I'm sure! That's the nature of the hobby ;)

    Prost!

Thanks Brad. I love your tip on using the plain wire handles on Chinese take out boxes.
I need to think like MacGyver ;)
