  1. Mike - The Kiwi A Fixture

    Country:
    New_Zealand
    Manufacturer: Wars and Peaces Miniatures
    Designer: Jean-Luc Frey
    Sculptor: Benoit Cauchies
    Scale: 65mm
    Website: https://wars-and-peaces-miniatures....ion-australian-new-zealand-soldier-and-dummy/

    Release Details:
    https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/anzacs-from-wars-and-peaces-miniatures.414233/

Figure is expertly cast in a dark gray resin.
Minimal casting lines needing a sharp scalpel blade to remove.

Benoit has imbued personality in this piece in a perfect homage to Steve Warrilow’s “The Fusilier” original design (Left) & Steve’s 2015 (?) reissue (Right painted by Chris Rickards)

Wars and Peaces tribute capture a casual, cocky smiling lad, with the spirit of the larrikin renown amongst the ANZACs - the embattled Kiwi & Aussie invaders at Gallipoli.

Spot these little details added or not:
    • missing button on braces
    • a safe around upper calf
    • handkerchief dangling from pocket
    • sock slipped down
    • pipe tucked behind suspenders

Work in Progress Design suggestions from Benoit’s desk

Main body with foot peg & securing slots on shoulder to aid assembly.

    Choice of hats is provided:
    - Aussie slouch (Tip: remove cap band to represent NZ Mounted Rifles)
    - New Zealand Lemon Squeezer, (Tip: Alter puggaree colours for different service branches Khaki/Red/Khaki for Infantry, Blue/Red/Blue for Artillery, Khaki/White/Khaki for Logistics)
Alternative headgear from spares boxes could be pith helmet or cap or could even sculpt hair on head or keep him bald with hat in his hand. Lots of options to ‘ring the changes’.

Legs has small detail to add character & boot lacing has to be seen to be believed. Hand has fine veins on top surface. Leaning arm has a solid pin on palm to slot into Dummy’s shoulder.

Dummy is a wonderful little model on its own right wearing his standard issue Service Cap with attached cloth sun shade.
Detail on ‘head’ cloth & flour bag is subtly shown.

Australian jacket has all features on front & back which differentiated it.
Pocket flaps are particularly well done with some buttoned, other folded in and flapping loose. It also shows wear with ragged cuffs & bottom edges, probably reason it’s found a new use for the dummy. Plus evident front/back target ‘battle damage’ from good & bad shots!
Sandbags inside is poking out below jacket & seems a
shame to keep hidden but will be painted up for those looking up his skirt :)

Final touch is a small solid, sandy textured base with a couple of rocks to secure the wooden post of the dummy & a pair of lug holes for the leaning ANZAC.

For one of most atmospheric titles on the ANZAC experience I recommend Listen to Gallipoli by Peter FitzSimons on Audible. https://www.audible.com/pd?asin=B00Q75EMNS&source_code=ASSORAP0511160006&share_location=pdp

Another Wars and Peaces Miniatures small accessory set to complement this figure & scenes in other theatres is a nice set of ceramic clay rum jars to suit their range. Perhaps even at a pinch maybe 54mm scenes. Three sizes are provided - 1/2, 1 Gallon & 2 Gallon plus a loose stopper.

Especially admire small SRD (Supply Reserve Depot) embossing on top of 1 Gallon jar.

Could be used with Combat Rations to show one of my favourite Kiwi ‘resupply’ photos - gotta love that headgear eh!

Rum was issued to troops from throughout Britain’s Empire during World War I. In this 1916 photograph, ANZACs of the 9th (Wellington East Coast Rifles) receive their daily rum.

With all due respect to The Fusilier's original, this piece defines the subject.
