Too true I have soentbthe day showing armour and other modellers how to paint faces 'my way', I am so conscious of not ceasing to absorb new techniques.
I love your dot texture process and will be attempting it for
the first time on a project that can 'carry it well' soon.

    Hi Paul,

Sound interesting this "first time project" experiment.
Too be honest it is strange how our painting styles evolve with little bits gleaned from all over the place then put together in our own interpretation & understanding of what we see/hear.
I wonder when it happens that we've found our niche & stick to an approach if that is when we feel satisfied with our art?

Look forward to learning how your project goes.
Please feel free to shout out if you have any questions.

    Stay safe,
    Mike

    Will do Mike.

I find that I paint each figure differently using different approaches to suit the character of the sculpt, I think of it as 'finding' the figure in the casting.
I often use a fine striping technique to bring out the weave in medieaval figures clothing for example, and using diffrent undercoats affect the topcoat so much too.

Time for some "Naked Modelling*" :)

Prompted by some Aussies - gotta love those guys, except when you're playing rugby ;)
Plus comments on finished figure, thought it may be of interest to see my current painting layout.
This where I paint & what I use.
What is of interest for you in this shot?
What would you value knowing more about?

This thread is yours & im keen to learn with you here.

What questions do you have about my notes here?
This was an intro brochure for demo workshops I tried earlier this year.
    Is it of value?

Happy to send free Hi Def PDF version for printing,

SO GOOD to see Mike completing this diorama. I used to look at the first two figures in amazement and then couldn’t believe it when he asked me to create a backdrop for them. I’m excited to see this developing.
    Fantastic Mike!

    Hi Mike

    Firstly - a Happy New Year !

I was out of the hobby when this thread started (!) so I've only recently picked up on it. Reading through, it has highlighted a lot about how I personally approach figure painting, and I have found it very useful and informative. I am amazed at the level of detail and the authenticity you manage to bestow on your figures. This last indigenous officer is so good. Thanks mate, your work continues to inspire me(y)

Neat to have you ‘back in the game’ Phil.
Thanks for kind comments & feedback today.
Been awhile since this began & pleasing to get small trio done.
Lots of other projects in the meantime, plus fortuitous connection with Andy gave me a conscience to complete.
I’ve reread thread & seems I was trying a bit to hard to share.
This final Officer is an incomplete project in my book so wanted to finish him off finally.
    Happy’22 to you & yours.

When you see him blown up so large it's hard to realise how small he is! I don't know how you do it, but I know it requires a lot of patience and skill!!!

Cheers Andy - always wonder how these little guys look to others.
I get very myopic when painting & only have virtual viewers.
So value all perspectives share here.
