WIP Drummer Grenadier Guards

This is my attempt at CGS Miniatures recent release depicting a drummer from the Grenadier Guards at the time of the Crimean War. Been following another version of this bust on here by Ventress which has been of great help. Some of the lace still needs to be painted in oils before I can try and tackle the fleur de lys pattern. Made a start on the drum but very early days yet-just need to get my lion looking more like a lion than a golden retriever!

    Thanks

That's lovely Neal, I would have the same problems with painting a lion but mine would look like a seal. Following.

I have a six inch strip of Drummers Lace, given to me by Len Deighton in 1950?

I will try a get a photo of it for this thread!

He was a Member of BMSS .. and already a stickler for detail! Still learning then!
I think he is still alive somewhere near Las Vegas?

Thanks Bob. If it eventually ends up resembling any kind of animal I think I’ll be happy.

Thanks Nap. Slow progress at the moment as I’ve been concentrating on the drum but I’ll post some progress shots shortly.

So, as mentioned above, I’ve been concentrating on trying to get the drum something like. This is where I’m up to at the moment with it. I believe there would have been 14 battle honours on the drums at this period, 7 either side (thanks Mick) and I’ve started the scrolls but they are in the very early stages yet. I’ve gone for the scrolls in a line rather than the staggered type in more modern versions (I’m assuming due to the increase in numbers of honours having to be displayed). Thanks Nap, glad you like it. Still a bit of work to do with the ropes and going over some of the details with the oils but it’s getting there.
