Finished off the Owl design shield, adding an edge in black over the Bronze. Currently working on a second Spartan shield depicting a mythical fish design.
All freehand using Jo Sonya acrylics.

    Thank you mate,

Lots of holding breath to get the lines going in the right direction with these, but a great learning process same time.

Impressive conversion - nobody has commented on the Spartan face yet, which sells the composition for me. Did you scratch build this?

Thank you David. The basic face of the Spartan is from Steve at Reedees Minatures, I converted it and added all the hair, turning him into a Homoioi.

Working on the groundwork, a simple rock gravel and shrub scene, based on images from around Greece and the Athens rural countryside.

A simple base as contrast to the brighter colours of the Hoplite warriors. I will add some pastel work for a dusty environment when the other Spartan figure is completed.

Painted plaster and PVA mix base with Tamiya XF Desert yellow, deck tan with some white added to progressively get a little lighter in colour.

    Hi Marcus

I think you've done well on type of base work , ideal contrast to the figures

Will you add any blood drips on ground below his wound ?

Would love to see your diorama up close ...perhaps Bugle Call ?

    Great update

    Happy benchtime

    Thank you mate,

Not sure will be going any more shows this side of Christmas, the wife has me booked in for DIY duties as we’re having our kitchen redone.

As soon as I’m let out for good behaviour will bring it to a show for sure.

About finished with this scene, a conversion of the Miniart 1/16 figures into an Athenian and Spartan Hoplite from the Peloponnesian Wars, 5th Century.

Well done Marcus, its a pleasure watching you build and convert these figures and seeing each project through to completion, bad luck on the DIY thing, I started one room 2 years ago and have gone through the entire house, in the roof space now putting down flooring so that I can get all the junk that has been DUMPED into my Model Room out so that I can get back to my figures, so don't get caught out like me - Kitchen and no more!

    Hi Marcus

Another fine result , really good putty pushing and painting

Amazing what you've done with the originals

Beware the DIY ...will grow day by day if not careful ...as Terry knows

    Look forward to the next

Fantastic work! I don't think that it is easy to do conversions at such a large scale and pull it off.

    Thank you Terry,

Having only worked on 1/35 till this year it’s been a real pleasure sculpting and working on a larger scale. I am gathering bits for a smallish 1/16 StuG Dio.

On the DIY front, been a mare this week with no kitchen then next week is all about tiling and papering, uh. Fingers crossed that’s where it ends.

Sounds like you’ve been roped into full house referb, I’m hoping to avoid that.

    Cheers,

    Marcus.

Thank you mate, it was a Labour of love and learned so much painting the Shields. A great subject area to research and model.

The dreaded DIY, off work all this week wallpapering and hopefully not buggering up tiling. Gulp.

    cheers mate.

    Thank you Victor,

I agree, in a way the larger scale is easier to handle but no hiding place with regard to detail, it’s either right or looks wrong.

So this one has been a journey of discovery and hopefully there is enough of interest in the scene to keep the viewer interested.

    Cheers,

    Marcus.

Excellent conversion work on these inexpensive plastic figures Marcus.
Your groundwork and painting have achieved a very eye-catching scene.
Just goes to show that you don't have to pay big money to get a superb scene.
    Very, very well done.

    Cheers,
    Andrew
