First to say, I do not post very often, cause while I am doing a lot of busts and figures, I am taking photographs not very often. This time I did some photos of my trio of british WW-One busts, two are from Model Cellar Productions, sculpted by Carl reid, one is from Young miniatures sculpted by Young B. Song.
Most of the paintjob was done with acrylics, some finishing touches done with oils.

I am really interested in your thoughts and if so, critics, about the bases, especially of course the cemetary base.
I hesitated to do such a base first, but at some time decided to dare it.
It is in no way a statement about the british army in WW1.
It is about all the losses in all wars at all times.

Well, what do you think ?

Ah, forgot to say that the officer with the whistle is not yet completed. Need to paint and work on the lanyards still.

    Thanks.

Hm, wasn't aware of this. Thanks for the input.
Maybe it is good - so that the crosses are a symbol for all losses and not only the british.

While not completely historically accurate as a bit of artistic license, it works to convey the story. BTW great job overall

    Hi Robert
Nice creative presentation bringing context to each of your busts and I do like the effort you’ve gone to.

Ref small crosses, these are used extensively in New Zealand for exactly the purpose you have described. On our National day of remembrance these are used to recognise our dead veterans from all wars.

Thanks for taking the time to share each of these - a fitting tribute for those lost in WW1.

Thanks to all for the kind words.
And especially to Paul from Modell Cellar, yes I enjoyed your busts a lot. They are not as static as others, more in motion and that makes them interesting for me.
    Thanks again to all. :)

    Hi Robert,
I like the painting of the figures, extremely well done, I'm not too sure if a trench raider would have had divisional insignia though I thought these would have been removed in case of capture. Then only name, rank and serial number!!! Below is a morning after photo of actual trench raiders courtesy of IWM.

I really like the figures and the ground work, I think the crosses are a nice touch, but for me personally I do not like the odd base shapes of the trio or quality they seem to detract from what is on top of them....but each to his own on bases.

    cheers

    Hello Richie,

that is a nice photo. As for the divisional insignia you might be right, in this case I followed the illustration of the box art. I think about changing that detail later.
As for the bases, I did the odd shapes by purpose, wanted to do something different from the common rectangular, round or oval shapes of bases, which bore me. But each to its own, as You said.

Interesting on the photo are the captured german pike helmets.
Here's a photo of my great-grandfather. He died in december 1918 from the injuries he got from gas attacks at the Verdun battlefield.

    Cheers
    Robert
