After a long absence, I return to this forum.
I thank pwadm here for giving me a new login in order to connect.

For my first topic, I present to you my last work on the Roman legionary of HIMINI.

The bust is a large size in 1 / 9th scale made up of 29 elements in gray resin. The resin seems very well made, the casting pads are present but the lines of molds discreet and well placed.

The different elements are also very well sculpted. I really like the patterns on the Glaive (Sword) and Pugio. There is also an knife very rarely represented as a figurine (to the right of the Pugio in the background). the gourd is sculpted with the separate strap also in resin, shaped and quite thin. The same goes for the pot on the right. There is also a saucepan and various small elements that I will have to be careful of so as not to lose them, which must be grafted on the armor ....
In the foreground, a pilum with the metal part and a wooden stick, which must be used to carry the whole package ...

The package is also very well sculpted with a cover and two saddlebags.

Finally, the shield which is wrapped in a canvas. It may sound surprising, but the Romans protected their shields from the elements in this way. The cut is oblique and I will therefore redo the right shield.

To enlarge the shield I use a card stock template that will give me the desired size.

In the thickness of the resin of the shield, I drill holes with a diameter of 1 mm to insert brass rods into them.

Then with magic sculpt, I make strips of dough that I place between the brass rods a bit like a wickerwork.

Once these bands are dry, I repeat the same operation on the other side of the shield to obtain an identical width over the entire length of the shield. Then, using Apoxie Aves to make the protective cover by creating some folds that will help to understand that there is a fabric.

Then, I put plastic card rectangles on the inside of the shield to simulate the reinforcement bars and still using Aves apoxia, I make the edges of the protective cover. The center of the shield is hollowed out so that the legionnaire's hand can fit into it. For this, I made an imprint of the back of the hand resculpted so that it fits perfectly and I pierced the shield to insert a piece of paperclip in the legionnaire's arm which will make it possible to solidify the grip of the shield which is heavier after the modifications ....

I also wanted to modify the character slightly by enlarging it slightly. Indeed the bust stops at the waist and the cingulum (belt which hangs at the waist) is in the void, as well as the pugio (dagger) and a good part of the gladius (sword). The fact of creating a piece of tunic, will allow these elements to be more solid because they will rest on matter and no longer on "emptiness".

In the photo above, we see that the sleeves of the tunic have been almost completely taken over. The bottom of the tunic was made in Aves. The cingulum was cut flush with the armor and repositioned slightly indented on the tunic. Discs were also made on the cingulum.

We also see the big paperclip on the back of the hand which is not really sculpted but just rough (only the palm has been reshaped as well as the fingers) and the small one on the forearm which will support the new weight of a shield.

In this photo we can see the shield in position which holds perfectly without glue. The shoulder pads of the armor are not put for the photo, they must be glued to support the support of the shield and the paenula. I will glue them after painting the tunic.

The pilum (javelin) was also redone, I added the pins which were missing on the initial model. I also redone the top of the pilum in plastic card, we can see the difference with the photo below. The metal rod has also been redone in a brass rod, I still have to finish the tip of the pilum, I see in the photo that I forgot to sand it and finish it correctly.


On the photo below we also see the cutout at the level of the bust and the cingulum which hangs in the void at the level of the lower abdomen ....

Very nicely done and the lower extension has worked really well, I often see busts being released that could benefit from a little more body that would complete a breastplate etc and give the weaponry something to sit on so you are spot on with this.
