This is the new release by Scientific Models. I've decided to paint him in black oil skins. I've blocked in the sweater in bone white, and the oil skins in heavy charcoal (Vallejo Game Colour). Tomorrow I'll start on the face proper, and the washes.

    Hi Henk

Your not wasting anytime on this

The black against the light colour of the jumper is going to look really good

That face screams out for paint ....great sculpting

Look ford to seeing more on both bust and the swordfish he will carry

    Following with interest

    Happy benchtime

It does Kev. I'm very tempted to do another one, with more contemporary yellow oilskins, and a darker, but faded jumper.. the weathering possibilities are wonderful.
The face is great, it paints itself. The beard has also been sculpted very well, but unfortunately the ears less so. But as they are all but hidden under the sou'wester it's not a big thing.

A little progress. Unfortunately I'm off to work again tomorrow, but I'll take this with me, and my paint box, so hopefully I'll get some more done before next weekend.

looking great, I'm not sure if to go black, or yellow, or a combination of both, black jacket and yellow hat, but would that even have been worn ?
I think this might be my 1st attempt at total oils as well, wish me luck

Yeah, black and yellow will be worn together. That's more about what the garment is made off, oils skins being exactly that, fabric coated in a oily substance (usually tar or linseed oil) to water proof it, so they are naturally black. Yellow garments are more modern, rubber coated which can be in yellow or any other colour. Yellow of course having been the colour of choice, because of it's high visibility in case of a "man overboard" situation.
To be honest, whether it's the (deliberate) sculpt, or the casting, the jacket is a bit rough, with some very crumpled areas, which gives more of an older, oil skin jacket effect, than a more modern rubber coated foul weather jacket. To be honest, I'm very tempted to get another, because doing one with yellow will be a joy to weather :D.

I had noticed the rough bits so more akin to an old style. so I suppose you could fill them in and sand smooth

Just a quick update whilst I use the wifi in the services...

Been working at the beard, no decent light in my truck, but working away on washes and gentle drybrushing. Cant wait to get back at the bench.... I think I'll start a "go fund me" page and retire early..:ROFLMAO:

Thanks Steve. It's a lovely piece to paint, you'll enjoy it. The swordfish will be fun. I've dug out my oils, I have a few iridescent colours that will work well. Will you add the pipe?
