UEFA Sends a Clear Signal for Tolerance and Democracy:
Hungary, Turkey, Russia and Poland are no longer
allowed to play in the European Championship






Nyon (dpo) - After the discussions about the rainbow lighting of the Munich Allianz Arena, UEFA is now apparently trying to save its image: As a sign of tolerance, the football association announced that the autocratically governed countries of Hungary, Turkey, Russia and Poland would not to have more play at the current European Championship.


"These four countries are out, there is no discussion!" Said UEFA boss Aleksander Čeferin at a press conference. "We want to send a clear signal that autocrats, right-wing nationalists and generally countries in which minorities are oppressed have no place in the EM."


UEFA cannot remain inactive where homosexuals are denied rights, media restricted or opposition members persecuted, said Čeferin.


Austria was spared for the time being. "It's not that bad yet," said Čeferin. "But we are keeping a close eye on what Chancellor Kurz is doing. If he continues to try to get the press under control, we will throw Austria out of the tournament immediately after the round of 16."


The tough decision of UEFA is cheered worldwide - after all, the European Football Association is finally showing a clear stance against discrimination and authoritarian aspirations, as has often been demanded.

As those four countries were already eliminated from the tournament during the group stage, and didn't qualify for the "Round of 16", it seems the latter is the case. Though perhaps Martin could explain why Scotland are out too? Was there ever any such controversy at the Euro when it was held in Folkestone?

That was an unlucky accident and not actually planned by the "directors".

But the Scots will now be avenged because Wales will defeat the Danes tonight - and next Tuesday England will ram the Germans into the ground unsharpened!

And then the final is: Wales against England!

England will be unlucky to lose to an 89th-minute Harry Kane own goal - and the Welsh will then lay claim to the British crown and ... but we don't want to go too far ahead ...

Good game by Ukraine - Sweden no pushover. That England fan photo says it all really - still the UK media have England winning it already and they still have to play 3 more games to achieve that.
