My book is finally published today after being held up in the docks!
The book features my work in 1:285 scale plus my trench sections in 1:32 scale. I was wonderfully assisted by Mike the Kiwi for several of my sections. Each chapter starts with the history behind the model and then goes on to step by step instructions on how I created them.

You can get it from and online bookshop, from Darren of Tommy's War or direct from Crowood Press.

Already ordered, (along with other Tommys war goodies) and looking forward to what looks like a great reference for an important subject.

When you get your copies, please do give me some feedback reviews. (If you have constructive criticism, I won't be able to change this one, but will be able to advise Mike Butler as he prepares his book.)

We did ask Crowood about working on each other’s books, but they don’t do that. Both books do feature each other’s work and we have assisted each other. Mike has a bespoke base made for a group of his figures, as well as showing the figures he painted for me last year.

    Hi Andy

Mine arrived from WH Smith on line yesterday ...my thoughts

A interesting and well thought out text

Written in a way that's easy to read

Lots of information and quality pictures highflying the details on trenches and the figures

    Paper quality good

Personally would have preferred hardcover and in a larger format but a must to anyone interested in the period

Worth waiting for ....and a good addition to the references

Thanks for your honest opinion Kev. I'll pass on your thought to Crowood.

So, Amazon finally delivered the book. Very quick browse through the pages and am chuffed to bits with it.

Now for getting all the bits o' messel' and put them back together so I can read the book....

    Thanks LH
I’ve been getting quite a bit of positive feedback on the book, but still bracing myself for some criticism that is bound to come. All that I’ve had so far is to do with how Crowood have presented it. But Crowood do produce great books on good paper and their idea of interspersed ‘tips’ through the text is clever and helpful.

    Andy,
Received mine safely from Darren, haven't had chance to do more than a quick flick through it so far, but like the other Crowood modelling books I've seen it's absolutely packed with information & an excellent reference. It won't be far from my desk whenever I paint Tommy's War figures.
Also, I like Mike Butler's idea of giving his figures names. Gives them personality & a sense of character, & a life of their own,
