    No luck with pistol !

It's quite a complicated paint so not rushing it ...3 figures in effect , front of horse , leopard skin and back and tge actual figure

    Thanks for looking in

Looking good, the horse works well with the base. Looking forward to see you tackling the Leopard skin.

Thanks Henk .......be interested to hear how you would paint the leopard skin

Will probably add a higher base as well as its quite awkward to pick up

If I was brave enough, I'd probably go for a similar approach to German camouflage. Paint the outline of the spots as a full shape, and fill in with the centre colour, rather than trying to outline.. the real skill, will be in recreating the fur effect. The more time I spend here, the more I realise how much easier it is, to paint camouflage uniforms.. I'm presently trying to get a convincing result painting a Napoleonic era cowhide backpack....

Going to have a go at sculpting the Pistolet An IX, in use with all French cavalry 1801-1815. Calibre .69

    Thanks to Airkid for pics

Nice one Kev. Have you thought of carving one from wood?

My preference would be to laminate up some plastic card profiles to a suitable thickness, file and sand to shape, then "borrow" a lock and trigger mech from a musket of the same scale.....(y)

Looking good Kev. I like the workings around the barrel, but if you are re-creating the An IX as above, the curve of the hand grip is to shallow, but it looks like you're a bit constrained by the shape of the hand.

    Hi Henk

Thanks for comment , ref curve can you mark where it should change if possible .....does it need reshaping /lengthening ? .....as you say hand might be a constraint

    Appreciate your suggestions

Sorry for the late reply Kev. I was out. I mean the handgrip where it sits against the top of the palm. The original has about a 90 degree curve, like a right angle, (which is quite acute compared to most old flintlock pistols), and yours looks more straight, with a slight curve. Unless that is the photo angle, in which case just ignore my ramblings..

If I was to be Mr Picky again, Id say the whole stock needs bulking up, IMO - if you take a pair of dividers and use the hammer for scale, you can work out that the whole thing looks a little underscale.....Just my two penn'th:)

I'd say the other way. The pistol looks right compared to the hand, I agree that the lock looks slightly to big, but that would be the lock, not the gun.

    Hi Guys

The stock has been bulked up a bit , the hammer came from a 1/9th musket .....maybe very slightly too big , I reduced the length as it definately looked too long ....I'm no sculptor for sure !

It's staying as it is ...this piece will be next on my bench so hopefully painting will help ! ....now I just need to learn to paint !

    Thanks for comments
