The bitter north wind is keeping me out of the garden at the moment....so cracking on while I can with some painting.....
The recent release from MMM. I'm calling it "Trail Boss" is a cracking 120mm by Carl Reid
The second is another recent release from Stormtrooper and again a lovely bust by Greg Girault
Colours blocked in and some work started with the oils.....

Looking good Mike! Bust is really nice and I like the wear on the hat. Of course I'm partial to the Trail Boss :) and really thrilled to see him painted. (y)

You've been a busy man Mike - down with gardening I say. Lovely work so far (and an impressively tidy bench).

I too like the TrailBoss figure. Nice job on the Stetson hat and bandana.(y) The duster coat and chaps will make the figure in my opinion. Looking forward
to seeing this one completed. Thanks for sharing your work!:)

Misfit, The duster was a very common light coat worn in the West. If you have access look at the movie Pale Rider...Clint Eastwood wears one as well as Marshall Stockburn's crew. Stockburn was played by actor, John Russell who stared in the series, Lawman, as Marshall Dan Troup. Once Upon A Time in The West starring Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda and Jason Robards is another movie where the duster is worn. In fact, Robards gang, Cheyenne's Men, wear them as a badge of identification...Great movie!

LL Bean sells something a little similar and calls it a Barn Coat, but it is cut to be only hip length where the duster was full length... Of course textile materials are much improved today over the course cotton fabric they used in the 1800's. The garment was light weight and provided some covering against elements. Note, this is not a slicker. A slicker was a garment coated with a rubberized substance to repel rain. Hope that helps and gives you some idea. The American West is an awesome period of time.

    Hope that helps...

Impressive start on both pieces Mike....I'm a bit partial to the trail boss figure as this one appears to be right up my alley. I was going to PM you but figured others might be interested. Would you mind sharing some thoughts on the quality of the sculpt and casting. Not looking for a full blown review, just your thoughts if you don't mind.
