Whatever happened to Jim Johnston (aka "roadking" on pF)?

A fine painter from the USA, his last visit here appears to have been in June 2016, and his blog page hasn't been updated since 2014.

I used to greatly admire his work. Anyone know him in the "real" world who can shed some light?

Jim is now a passionate photographer, including competing in competitions with his landscapes & scenes. He shares these on Facebook. This may account in part for his absence here & in other modelling forums.

Thanks for the heads-up Mike. Good to know he's still OK albeit active in a different hobby these days. As a jack-of-all-trades but a master of none, I always admire (maybe with just a little touch of envy LOL) those guys who seem to excel in whatever they turn their hand to.

There were other reasons as well - might have been linked to the "deadbeat-list" of the former Redlancers-Modelshop...

What's all that then? First I've heard about it.

Chuck Robinson listed up people who had burned him in business and owed him considerable amounts of cash... I respect Jim`s work as an artist but can confirm that his reliability in business was different.

As Mike mentioned, Jim is now an accomplished photographer.
Like many of us, I think he found another passion. I haven’t picked up a figure in over 15 years and life is too busy to start again.
I will be liquidating my 400+ grey army over the next year or so.

Ah OK. I wouldn't know about any of that and am not going to get sucked into it. I just like his work.

no need that anyone gets sucked into anything - you asked and that`s what I know about it. I liked his work and his company Fort Duquesne released some very nice kits.

Well well, I never knew that he was the man behind the Fort Dusquene brand. You learn something every day!

Thanks for sharing your info, Martin.

Yeah, Jim retired, as it were, from figures a couple of years ago. I think it was 2017. I last saw him at that time, when he took a table at our show (MFCA) to sell the remainder of his own stash. He made a post on Facebook at that time, too, about focusing on photography (no pun intended, but I'll take it).

    Prost!

Is Chuck Robinson still about? I met him over here a couple of times.

No, Chuck passed on a while back and I will really miss seeing him at shows and visiting with him at his shop. He was a unique individual.

Always enjoyed your articles and work phil, in fact l painted a figure last month using an article by you as a painting guide, couldn't match your expertise though.

    Best wishes.

That's a shame. He was a good guy and a major driver of the figure modelling hobby in the 'States (and here too for that matter). Thanks Steve.
