    Finished his head, fear if I play with it to much more I will ruin what little skill I have been able to employ. Re-did his hair as was to blonde, added a 5'oclock shadow and glazes (red, yellow and blue). Shako next

    Just a very small bit of filler to join the chin strap onto the shako;

    Resizer_16147012794960.jpg

    Shako has had a satin varnish coat applied and his hair braids added

    Getting closer to the end ...a lot of enjoyable benchtime so far

    Finished off the cartridge case and attached to the strap;

    Resizer_16149451371740.jpg

    Also painted his sabre/ sword blade and added some blue and yellow glazes to give different effects when viewed. Just need to polish the edges;

    Started sorting out the resin base pieces;

    1st of all need to fill in the "grass blade" effects with some DAS putty;
    Resizer_16149451371742.jpg Resizer_16149451371743.jpg

    Then the filled in areas have been treated with vallejo thick European mud ;

    Resizer_16149451371744.jpg

    And this is the partly finished result, this is the rear resin piece

    Resizer_16149451371745.jpg

    Long static spike grass, burnt grass and some flowers have been ordered.]

    Another dry fit shot showing off the partly finished rear mount, now painted up not sure about filing in the gap. Will see how it looks once the front one is filled and painted

    My personal view, for what it's worth, is that the two-piece base looks awkward, a bit like he's jumping a ditch. Full ground work would give your excellent work better context and impact.

    Thanks for the kind comments

    Yep your probably right re the bases, will get the front piece sorted at the weekend and get both pegged and the base drilled next week and plug them in and sculpt some foam between them.

    Hi Steve

    Nice work on the separate bases but I do agree with Richards comments ...building the base will enhance the piece

    Look forward to more on this it's been a interesting project so far

    Happy benchtime

    All caught up.
    Enjoyed reading it.
    Comments about the base
    I tend to agree with the above about jumping a ditch so why not see if you can buy half a horse and work it so it looks like it buried in the mud. ?

    Nice idea, but half a horse would be expensive and bigger than the space between the two formed bases. :(:):)

    Flowers and grasses arrived today so 'planted' the rear section and started on the front piece, just waiting for some brass paint to paint the cannon

    Resizer_16153072373072.jpg Resizer_16153072373073.jpg

    Scored the base for the putty to 'grip' onto. Its now in the airing cupboard drying overnight ready for stage 2
