These paints been out for a little while now
and being promoted quite a bit by D Cartacci on the net with new paint set coming out week by week
even though there seems to be a long time between promotion and delivery.

Has anyone on here actually used them , are they just another acrylic on the over saturated market
to be applied in the usual acrylic method or can they be wet on wet applied and avoid the chalk appearance of acrylics .

Never seen the chalky appearance using acrylics and certainly not interested anymore new paints.

They work well, dry quite matte, are for those who mix vs paint by numbers..good quality for sure..lids a bit tricky and can burp paint..Pegaso sold out long ago..good luck finding them..but there is no substitute for experience in handling a particular brand to figure out say how might work with wet palette, or if needs drop of glaze medium etc..they are made by Cramerini, family owned and run Italian pigment and coatings firm, Alessandro is a painter, football freak...my Italian fades when he posts his stuff on Italian politics!..I do know the company has been hurting thru pandemic
‘the extra sets are long gone, and only available as far as I know on EBay ..the base sets are still at PK pro in Germany. Needing some I reached out to Kimera- and vsiriously have been told, soon, no idea..pk told me they expect more end February...
of course they mix with any other acrylic..if you are into Kirill his book uses them for a few illustrative things on colour..and I think one Nmm example..
‘there is a FB group, Kimera painters club..pretty friendly and mix of fantasy, historical...and high level guys as well as plods like myself..
if you can find a set, and are interested in fooling around w mixing, definitely worth a shot..it’s good stuff..of course the market is being swamped..and I wonder if the little guys such as Kimera kolor will survive...at least they offer the pigment content..as does Scalecolor with many of their artist tube stuff..
If you are ordering other stuff from PK or wherever and the stockist has some individual bottles give em a try..

Oh, and I recall Stelios has one book with colour equivalents that includes Kimera...I’d send an image, but sent it in trade to fellow PF member...would actually be useful to have someone assemble and post some good, up to date colour crossover charts..not so much as paint by numbers, but to allow comparisons of like for like ..so could take a familiar branded colour and test a new offering...

Sounds like you aren’t likely really interested in acrylics..and to be honest, I still prefer oils...these do offer and intro based on familiar pigments ...but they handle like acrylics...the only stuff that falls partly between is True Earth..and they seem to stay workable more than acrylics.

If I could get decent results then I would use them for there speed , but my oil painting style has changed and I now paint exclusively wet on dry ,
similar to acrylics but longer drying time ,but only a day or two at the most as the oil is highly thinned

My way as well...very thinned, thin layers..I try with acrylics..and they work via airbrush...but I still enjoy a certain way of applying, blending that comes with oils..even where the paint is left deepest on a brushstroke is opposite from oils...

I've bought a set and a boxed set of the scale75 tubed acrylics but haven't used them. I hated acrylics for years, going back to Andreas figure international as the painting was in flat acrylics and the figures looked exactly that FLAT and lifeless, l rarely bought any Andrea figures as a result.
I have painted a couple of figures in acrylics but can't get the depth of colour l would like without the hugely unnatural contrasts which are all the rage now it has taken me years to become a modest painter in oils and you are streets ahead of me Ron, don't bother mate

My position is few of us earns our keep via painting, so it’s fun. And if oils are fun, why shift.

Thank you for the complement Keith . I know I have only been a member here for about 6 or seven years but I have been painting in oils since the nineteen seventies albeit with a long extended break but still have a tube of real Naples yellow from that era to prove it

I am always looking to improve but know I will never really get to grips with plastic paint , like you say there is a dead quality about it although D Cartcci has overcome this.
Wish I could show you the new method shown to me by D Mitchell re wet on dry with oils as its a huge jump forward but you really need to see it done in real time .and I am just grazing the surface compared to Dave.

    cheers Ron

Having had a conversation with FER at a show in Germany , his take on acrylics was you can get through a piece much quicker so less chance of getting bored and loosing patience with it , he has a point esp if you are working on a complex piece . Although Fernando works in oils he was also able the wield
a brush loaded with oils .

Check Dmitry Feseschko for an oil painter as good with oils as Kirill with acrylics. Am biased as he’s a solid friend.

Interesting conversation. So I guess the bottom line would be;... what works best for you and gives you the best result that meets your own satisfaction. After all, this is a hobby for most of us. Sorry I can't add to all the techno talk but I stick with my old friend Popeye's advice "I am's what I am's and that's all that I am"............

To clunclude re Kimera- I know from the first round, they receive the paint in larger containers, hand decent to bottles, hand label, hand box, hand mail...and this is same handful also processing the figure range sales..the guy doing much of the box art also wraps and mails..so it’s slow...and they don’t -refund with kickstarters etc..I have a load of respect for a cottage industry..in oils there are a few colourists of the same- natural pigments, blue ridge , Langridge..

Agree totally Wayne, enjoyment of the hobby and the opportunity to converse either at events or on line with fellow enthusiasts is the real joy of this and any other hobby...never more so in current times.

My comments regarding acrylics were a personal observation as there are some amazing acrylic painters out there and many who have converted to the attributes of acrylics from oils or enamels with wonderful results. Indeed many are combining all three mediums.

I think the bottom line is that with practice and the myriad of videos, patreon tutorials, books, paints, scenic materials, additives there is an opportunity for anyone to achieve a pleasing standard of modelling.

The true artists will continue to raise the bar dragging us all enthusiastically behind, long may it continue.

Btw, the 12 colour set is back in stock from Pegaso..in the three years Pegaso has produced paints, this set and the two from November- 24 bottles in total plus a satin medium...hardly every other week..
genuine Naples still available as is chrome yellow, flake white etc...check Natural Pigments, Michael Harding..of course Winsor now is nothing like the paint line of past..
  19. Ronaldo A Fixture

Most serious oil guys use Old Holland these days ,more pigment for your buck and less oil , you could also go Michael Harding or Versari
although the latter need to be treated with care with miniatures as the earth colours seem to be oversaturated with the carrier but they are at the bottom end of their price range , but they do a lovely colour Video blue which is very rich in pigment and given the cost of their reds Im sure they would be the same.
