Really enjoyed painting these to my standard. I am not a flat/semi flat painter by any means but it has been fun doing these the way I wanted to do them.

These are 120mm tall, 3mm thick resin semi flats from Mil-Mart sculpted by Ken Farrar. Prior to painting these I was aware of Tsar Nicholas II but that was it. In delving into their history a bit more and reading about the horrible way the whole family was murdered, I developed quite a soft spot for them with the sculpts showing them in happier times but not long before their sad demise.

I am considering putting these into a picture frame so I edited a photo to use as a backdrop as in the picture below. Many thanks to all who commented on the WIP thread and to Mil-Mod for these great value for money figures.

Nice finish, Graham! These will look pretty mounted in a frame as you mentioned.
I understand what you mean about the subject, too. I've got 2 of Chronos' 54mm figure of Tatiana, though I'm going to convert one to a German duchess as Chefin of an Ulan regiment for my parade display.
    Prost!

They came out very well Graham. I like the colours and your idea for the background sets them off a treat.
I am a bit of a Russophile and this period is fascinating for its political and social turmoil. The end of the Romanov dynasty was a major tragedy which the Great Powers turned their backs on.

Many thanks Phil for your support and kind words. Yes the end of the Romanovs was a dark day for the barbaric way the ‘execution’ took place. I don’t know if they were good or bad people but if they had to die, there were more civilised ways of doing it or they could have been exiled to their relatives in the UK.

looking forward to seeing what you do with your two mystery pieces :D I do like the concept of figures you can display on the wall though. These have now been framed up in an A4 frame until I can get a 10x8 which would be better. Not a great pic due to reflections but here they are in my mini art gallery in the hall.....

I like that - "figures you can display on the wall"(y). Nearly done with the bust so should be able to crack on with Ken's "The Dance" next week.

The Dance is a stunning piece as is Beauty and the Beast. I am working my way towards them but will be a while yet. Got five to do and looking at another three to get soon.

It just appealed to me for some reason:rolleyes: I'll have to airbrush prime it as I just noticed I've run out of grey rattle can primer - poo!

You got too dark blue on Olga's hussar uniform - a little more and it would be almost the same as the color of Tatyana's dress. Compare how light it is in reality.

Yiu have obviously enjoyed them and will no doubt enjoy the next

It's really good seeing the pieces Ken has released being painted as well perhaps he might sculpt more ?

Good references from svt fir others that wish to paint ....be great to see the uniforms worn by Russian Royals in our reference section as well

Look forward to seeing the next and "The Dance" from Phil

You are right, I did have that picture but as I started to highlight towards it, it was looking chalky so I reverted it to the base colour. Thanks for the comment(y)

great references for Olga and Tatiana are available. Only seen one picture of the Tsars outfit but it was black and white so not much use for colour. Apparently, the Tsar was a bit of a dapper with regard to clothes......

Ken’s figures are not only good, interesting but terrific value for money please don’t judge the quality of these figures by my dodgy painting :D. These are the ones I have in hand, all primed up and three more have been ordered.

I'm having a flashback to Charles Kay's portrayal of Nicholas in "Fall of Eagles."

    Prost!
