    It's so difficult to tell with any certainty. My inclination would be that everything is in blackened leather, with metal ornaments in silver. Black leather will take on a reddish brown tinge with wear, but given that this harness is based on a Mameluke or Arabian design, the use of reddish Moroccan leather could well be possible (see the cross-belt for the ammo pouch, for example). The fringes certainly look grey but I think this is just by virtue of the highlights used by the artist. They could, of course, by silver wire, although I've never seen this myself Your call based on best guess and the views of the PF community!.

    I reckon the harness and fringes are all black (see the last discussion ref this... where I became convinced it was black).

    The original is here (note colour variations in their versions) and this allows zooming in (though not always on the precise area you want).

    For similar style harnesses, Roussselot, Fort (No 2&3), Bucquoy, Conrad, Jouineu/Martinet all seem to favour black as well.

    Think your right, remember now looking at Steve's thread and the general consensus seems to be they are in black, plus on Neal's Thread ; NealW posted this picture of a similar harness arrangement;

    Damm it- Casting Line :mad: , going to have get rid off that carefully and re-spray that part. good job i hadn't glued on any of the head decorations. :)
    Vallejo .950 which is supposed to be gloss black, according to the paint list, but isn't. The highlights are Dark grey and then followed by a coat of Vallejo Gloss varnish (n)

    I am a few weeks behind you Steve, but that allows me to follow along and take advantage of your progress, techniques and colors. (y) I am still in the prep phase, almost ready for priming. I think I will resort to your method of handling the horse. I think I can get a dowel in the same place you did. Because the horse figure is so large, I cross pinned the torso and head with some sturdy brass rod.

    LOL :)

    I found it easier to paint the head seperatly as it has more details to paint. The Dark blue (Vallejo Air) for the saddle cover has arrived, so hopefully get that sprayed at the weekend, and re-spray the front of the horse now i have removed the casting line:mad:

    Good idea with the rod for the head. And look forward to seeing your build on here soon.

    Casting/ mould line removed and the damaged paint work re sprayed. Used panzer putty to outline the saddle and then wrapped the rest of the horse in clingfilm and sprayed the dark blur, in various layers and shades of prussian blue. Will need more highlights and shadows adding.

    These large mounted figures certainly have presence. Good luck with painting the horse. It is very easy to over shadow greys that are essentially white in the larger scales. Bizarrely dapples are easier.

    Highlights and shadows added to the gold braiding.
    Leather saddle straps have been weathered and had a gloss varnish followed by a matt varnish in places.
    Red piping has been started.
    The circled area will need rebuilding.
    Once the piping has been highlighted and missing bit added I think the next thing will be sorting out the hooves and painting the knees.
    Still having great fun with this one.

    Will need a bit of filler to join the two pieces circled in red together, same on both sides of the head

    Painted up the Horse's Bit (both side) and attached to the head;
    20210129_151346_resized.jpg

    decided to open up part of the ring;
    20210129_151408_resized.jpg

    so the rein appears attached, instead of just gluing the reign onto the outside of the ring, think it looks a lot better this way
