I had originally intended to start another full figure next, but this guy dropped on the doormat this morning and I didn't take much convincing to get it on the bench.
It is a two piece item in 1/9, neatly sculpted by Pavol (Offo) and well cast in grey resin.

The detail is excellent, particularly the '58 web equipment. The face looks quintessentially British. The smock seems to be a generic version - not sure the button-up rank tab was in evidence in '82 but came in on the Soldier 90 kit. Old sweats out there will be able to correct me on that. I did TAVR service '68 - '83 (A Coy 4v Bn RGJ) and although we had the latest DPM I don't remember it looking quite like that.
I'm going to give it a bash, and see if I can get that "cabbage" looking right. Watch and shoot!

I left the service in 1978, so can't say for certain about uniform in '82 but a google search shows rank insignia was moved to the chest in 2005

I did four tours with AMF(L) and as such went to Norway each winter, from 1974-78. That is the artic combat jacket. They were a bit bigger than temperate combats as you could wear a quilted jacket underneath as well as trousers to be worn under the combat trousers. There are photos of the Scots Guards wearing the trousers over their combats.

Badly:eek:. I've got a couple of S90 examples. I'll hang one up in the workshop and wear the other, just to get into the spirit of it:LOL:

    Afternoon all

Yesterday I started to get to grips with this one. I undercoated the head (Army Painter Skeleton Bone spray u/c) and began by brushing a coat of AV Flat Flesh over the face. I also blocked in the beret and the moustache and hair. I was going to give him a swarthy dark-haired look, but the more I looked at it, the more it didn't gel. So, out with the Dettol and by this morning a good brush in soapy water brought it back to the grey resin. I then primed it with Tamiya Grey primer, and this afternoon I airbrushed a couple of coats of AV Game Air Dwarf Skin.
I decided I'd go with acrylics so the face was dealt with using Scale 75 colours from the face pack. I still have some work to do on the ears and a bit more blending, but the photos give a general impression of how he'll look (now with sandy/fair hair)

I'm sweating on that camo, but fortunately there isn't a lot of it - enough to make a balls-up though!
I might put a rank slide on the tab - anyone know if that was appropriate for the Falklands?

    Hi Phil

Looking good , must admit the more I look the more I like the sculpt

The rank slide is a nice idea , there one in the picture posted by Steve but don't forget the way the guards ranks work

    Thanks for sharing

    Look forward to more

    Happy benchtime

The more I see work done with those Scale75 artist acrylic, the more I like them. Still the skill of the painter though not the paints.

Thanks for those kind words Graham. I think where these paints, particularly the Flesh sets, are helpful is that they provide a "fixed" group of useable colours with which you can experiment without getting bogged down mixing shades.
As for the "skill" of the painter, I think a well sculpted piece such as this one does bring out the best in the paint job.

Nice work on the flesh Phil.
Looking at his face and maturity his rank should either be senior NCO or, if officer, a Major or above, he has the look of a company commander to him.
    Cheers
