    Imagine the joy and excitement I felt ( and to be fair my son and daughter seemed just excited) when I was given this wrapped up in shiny Christmas wrapping paper, I had left them subtle hints – okay maybe not so subtle hints, that I fancied painting one of these superb pieces. My son Josh got in touch with Gordon via email and the deal was done.

    This is no way a full review, as the superb ones Nap gives us, but photos showing what delights are wrapped in a ton of bubble wrap, which certainly kept it safe through the postal system.

    The box is a fair size, and packed with bubble wrap

    A comprehensive parts list and a printout of the famous painting of “Vive L’Empereur” by Edouard Detaille;

    3-Parts list.jpg 4-Painting.jpg

    The painting depicts the cavalry charge of the 4th Hussars during the “Battle of Friedland.” Historians regard the Battle of Friedland as one of the most brilliant victories of Napoleon during the heyday of the French Empire. In the “Battle of Friedland,” which took place in 1807, the French army under the command of Napoleon won decisively against a Russian army. The battle took place in the territory of Friedland, which was part of East Prussia and now part of modern-day Russia. The battle took place 84 years before this painting was created.
    The 4th Hussar Regiment (4e régiment de hussars) is a Hussar regiment in the French Army, created in 1783 and still in existence. The Hussars played an essential role as cavalry in the Napoleonic Wars (1803–1815).

    Where the painting hangs, interesting that the painting wasn’t created until 84 years after the battle.

    Onto the Resin, which is beautifully cast, nice and crisp with minimal cleanup. The only major cleanup is on the 4 parts of the horse, rest are minimal seam lines and a bit of flash here and there;

    Horses Body, some excellent under cutting (if that’s the right Phrase);

    Straps a plenty;

    The substantial base points, with integral cannon ball, wheel and cannon cast into them. The gap between the bases could be filled in to make a solid piece of ground, which is what I think I will do.

    As for construction and painting, looking at the 4 horse parts, it looks like you can join the two front halves together and then seperatly the rear halves together to ease painting. Once painted then bring the front and back together joining at the saddle strap line and then add the horses head. This would make it a bit easier to paint (all at the same time) with the airbrush

    One thing i do know is this wont be finished in a weekend

    Great review, Steve. Looking forward to see how this gets painted up. If it were me, it would take two years.

    Some kit that is; old school; but magnificent detail. Taking ones time will pay dividends. Good luck

    Nice review. Just wondering if all the parts are casted with all the fine details. It seems the photos show some of the castings are soft, not crisp and lack of details when compare to RP Models.

    I think this looks a terrific build that will give great satisfaction to put together and paint. Cannot wait to see it finished by next weekend :whistle:

    Its not as sharp as some of the RP castings, but should still paint up nice and a few washes will help pop the details that are there. Plus some of the images have been zoomed ( :-( )

    And its .......................... Not even out of the box yet :)
