Initially pretty much like the rest of us then. He is obviously one of those gifted people who crop up in all facets of life, be it music, art, engineering, what have you. His work is outstanding, but I suspect he got where he is by constant practice and experiment, plus an exceptional "eye". I'm sure this book will be a best seller for AK

It seems to be flying off the shelves. I'm sure there will be more print runs, but AK have sold out for now, as have various other online sellers. I had a job finding one, but eventually found one in the UK, which kept shipping to a minimum (GBP 2.75 as opposed to the AK shipping price, which came up as 11 Euros to the UK).

I am trying to get one, ore as coffee table thing tho..in reality not one of the paint manufacturer sponsored books will change anyone’s work one iota..art is a journey of personal style, and for all Kirill and others are great painters, popular at shows for hanging out for beer..learning needs lessons, feedback...in most any endeavour progression is more than simple work..without incremental steps, critique then bad habits build, or mistaken understanding.. check a books entitled “You are an Artist” by Sarah Urist Green.the lessons from solid 1/1 artists will teach more about art and yourself than ten AK, Ammo, Vallejo “how to Paint Like Rembrandt” stuff..if you just want to see his work, cool..but really sign up for some lessons, 1 on 1, in your native language..

The differences are the majority of them graduate from art school, first as a hobbyist and later make a living as a full time figure painter and sculptor vs we are all part time painter and figure painting is our hobby.

Bingo Felix..that’s it..but aside from school..learning is learning and these books are hard to learn from

This thread seems to be polarizing into those who will buy it/have bought it and those who think it's just another "how to", of which the market is awash at the moment. Felix's comment is very valid - KK and many like him are consummate professional artists who make a living from painting commission and box-art stuff (and writing "how to" books:whistle:). I greatly admire their work but they are a completely different animal to us club-level hobbyists. Nice book, and although it would be informative I think I can live without it. My two cents FWIW

Yes, it’s a discontinuity between art and craft..in a previous incarnation I showed in galleries, published artists books...have never really considered miniatures as being art..it’s high end very proficient craft..and a pleasant pastime. But craft or art..either way: these aren’t course books..any more than the endless books on colour recipes make a diddly squat different to learning how to paint. In any endeavour I can think of: sport, business..there is a grounding in fundamentals..a process of learning, testing, and eventually building towards some sort of mastery..I defy anyone to do that with glossy paint company books

In the end it doesn't really matter though does it?

Different guys look for different things in a book. As I said in the earlier thread about this one, I buy books like this mainly to (a) marvel at the work of the top painters, and leading on from that to (b) draw inspiration for my own (modest by comparison) efforts. I'm under no illusions that they'll magically transform me into a multiple Gold Medal winner, but I do find them very enjoyable as "coffee table" books to leaf through. And if I pick up a tip or two along the way, that's a bonus. I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on my copy of this one.

Kirill's work is outstanding and to have a reference at hand of how he achieves his fantastic results is a must for me, just got to get my head around the price tag for a book and jump when the time is right, whatever happened to the online January sales lol.

FOMO means no need!...although, think about it: managing low inventory, margins, exchange risk, global sources, direct selling from manufacturers who also can impose minimum resale prices...people have been buying steadily thru covid lockdowns...the January sale likely thing of past

Same here Terry. Ghamilt1's review convinced me. The price, including postage to Australia, was eye watering, but if it improves my technique it will be worth it. I justified it as my birthday present from the family. :)

I am not out to be a Master, and never will be, but we can always learn by observing and reading about the techniques of the master painters and others. Many good people on PF have helped me considerably, and I am sure this book will too.

Take care and stay safe over there, the news on Covid in the UK is disturbing. Good excuse to stay home and get some bench time up.

    Cheers
