    Hi everyone

I have been lucky to be sent a selection of bases from OAKWOOD STUDIO ( they are also supporting our competition Vignettes & Diorama )

    Oakwood bases 007-001.jpg

Run by Richard Wharton who is also a supporter of the White Rose Club which we are I am sure aware of

A picture from Richards bench ..more variety of shapes and woods here !!

    Overall comments
    • A wide range of woods are available - if Richard can get the wood, then a base can be made !
    • Woods include Yew, Oak, Mahogany , Iroka, Beech
    • A post hole can be drilled if requested when ordering ( with size )
    • Angled , straight, oblong, square, specialist shapes ...all are available
    • Natural features in woods are incorporated like bumps and knots, twists ...all creating a very different result
    • ALL bases have a felt underside , securely attached with a company label
The bases were received in a strong cardboard box inside the bases were surrounded by newspapers with each individual base also being packed in newspaper , on removing this the bases was then found in a clear bag ...Impressive packaging by all standards
    • All bases are totally undamaged at the corners as a result of the packing quality :)
    • Sharp and level edges , shaped lower parts of base

I was sent a variety of types , various woods, and styles, as you can see lets look at the different types ( there are more available ...just contact Richards )

    Oakwood bases 008.jpg

Look at the lovely effects and colours that's been achieved

    Oakwood bases 010.jpg

    Oakwood bases 011.jpg

Angled and various heights in this style ( fitment holes can be drilled if requested with size ) , these are designed mainly for busts...again lovely woods

Oakwood bases 013.jpg Oakwood bases 014.jpg Oakwood bases 015.jpg

Perfect example of involving the burrs and knots that are found on trees , and a mass of different colours

    Oakwood bases 017.jpg

Ideal for figures of course or smaller scaled busts, again nice staining and graining effects

    Oakwood bases 018.jpg

Using a different type of wood to get a lower base definition ....nice variation in type

    Oakwood bases 020.jpg

Really nice colour on this , very smooth surface and a good angle as you can see

    Oakwood bases 022.jpg

Squared and straight edged again with some nice effect

    Oakwood bases 024.jpg

This style is a pyramid type ideal for busts and prodced in a variety of woods

    Oakwood bases 026.jpg

This is a RESIN base shaped as you can see , interesting version with many uses

    FINAL THOUGHTS

There you have it a variety and I hasten to add very small amount of the bases that are available from Oakwood ,

Without a shadow you will not be disappointed with any of the bases you order , service will be first class , and the presentation of the bases the same

Without a doubt some of the best bases I have seen :)

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (y)

For almost 25 years the one and only source for all my bases! Excellent craftsmanship at a very honest price, most highly recommended!

    I agree Pierre and Kev.
Really nice bases and a top service. I'd unhesitatingly recommend Richard to anyone who might need a new base. He's happy to adjust sizes and colours or make something exactly to your specifications with absolutely no drama, just good honest value and service(y)
    Cheers

Best bases in the UK for sure. Not the cheapest - but you get what you pay for. Quality every time, and a great range (including custom-made if you want it).

Don't bother going anywhere else. Richard's bases are the best. Knockout quality, very reasonable prices and rapid turnaround of your order. What more can you ask for?
