I'll have a little more to do with this. I will have to make the brim of the hat from GS, because the shape is completely different.
I will have to spray it with the primer, because the face also seems a bit too square, too masive by te jaw - though I might be wrong. Painting can do a lot, and screw up a lot.

Nice work so far Marcin - that looks like James Coburn to me. He had a rather wide mouth exactly as you have sculpted it . Fine actor. I liked him as Steiner in "Cross of Iron" but his acting catalogue was far wider than action heroes. I think he had a war record? Somebody will know.

Actually, my work as far was to unbox this bust . Pavol OFFO Ovecka sculpted this, he's very talented man!


According to the photo above, I should fill the gaps on the right cheek and slightly change the shape of lower lip, what do you think, guys?

Ah, my mistake. Offo is a talent for sure. I just finished his Bigeard bust.
I think the hollows in the cheeks are probably OK, but the lower lip may need reducing in width to give that slightly pursed look. The tip of the nose could get reduced a bit. In the photo you posted his nose is rather less hooked that Offo has sculpted it. Point of the chin needs rounding out to make it less angular. If it's any consolation, the Steiner bust (Young Mins??) doing the rounds is nowhere near as accurate as this one IMO. I'll watch developments with interest

Not to add to your work, but look closely at his ears and you will see that the sculpt has 'generic' ears that are a different shape

Personally the sculptor has nicely captured the actor IMO. I agree that you can adjust the features slightly to bring it closer to the picture, but it is undeniably James Coburn (That said I'd probably do the same as you and tweak the lower lip so that it blends more into the chin and reduce the depth of the sides of the face and cheekbones. Not too complicated and it will be easier than trying to disguise them with clever painting)

I want to thank you for your help and all suggestions. I really appreciate that! I am currently browsing JC's fb page and looking at his photos, I come to the conclusion that I need to start painting the bust before I start remaking it.




Because, by the way, it would be strange for me: all the busts are practically identical to the originals and suddenly one would be not so good?
As for the hat. Is this rodeo, cattleman or cutter style?

The US Navy photo is very much like Offo's sculpture. Can't help with the hat style, but it is possible it was his own hat, rather than the studio's.

Cowboy hats had different cuts, especially the brims could be different and I asked about that, but never mind.
Quickly - tried a bit of hat design.



I slightly chamfered the top to obtain a fairly ovoid shape:


Too narrow, as you can see, it should curl more:


As Bob Ross always said - what the heck, let's go crazy :


Better. I'll keep trying tomorrow, but I think I should go this way?




Here the cardboard is delaminated, but I will use a single layer cardboard for final production and I strength it with CA glue.

Yup - last two photos look like you've nailed it! Wider at back, narrowing at front is how I remember them from the movies. Nice work so far

The first dose of CA. The cardboard is quite absorbent, afterwards I will sand it with fine sandpaper, on both sides.

That's a much better way to tackle that job, using card instead of trying to roll putty to a uniform thickness and then getting it to stay put while it sets. Good tip Marcin
