Hi, after seeing Cannonball’s work on this new bust I thought I would share my WIP

Wow, that was quick Steve. Looks like you’re a lot further on than me but it’s looking great. Like your take on the colouring of the extra harness decorations. I looked at the Detaille painting and a couple of other full figure representations I found on the net and couldn’t decide whether it was a grey/silver/brown combo or more towards the gold as you’ve gone for.

Cheers mate, yes I’ve been poring over a blow up of the painting and gone with a best guess. I may tone it down but I like it .
Just trying to work out how to attach the sword sheath and sabretache, just need more hands

First rate job. Full size figure and horse must be even more imposing.

I'd go for silver. All the repros I've looked at seem to veer towards that and this art-print site which allow you to zoom in really close seems to confirm it.

Yes it’s certainly large, you also find it heavy once it starts coming together . I also keep knocking bits off, lost the little cross at the bottom of the horses neck ornament this morning to the carpet monster

Interesting... My interpretation was that those decorations were probably black leather.

Yes, can imagine that happening; still lovely figure and very dramatic, really captures the painting.

None of these is the one above... so unless someone knows of one, it looks like there's no cheap option

Ah... sorry if I'm being stooopid and no doubt some of you here know the bloke, but it's just dawned on me that the sculpt by Ricardo Garijo referenced above is the original for this piece (credited as Red Pilot Models).

The similarities are clear and you can even see the strange seam that Neal queried.

Re the seam: this was 3D modelled so (without knowing much about it) I assume it's due to elements not being 'seamlessly' combined together?




The good news for Mike is that Grod says that other busts and 1/10, 1/16 and 1/20th mounted versions will be released.




Looks like Ricardo was also responsible for the 17th Lancer Bugler and duelling hussars (also from Gordon)
