I had to do a double take on United Nations, wasn't aware that that was apparently an alternative name for Allies (or is there a difference?)

I think it's just a phrase for bringing all Allies forces together in one name ?

That was my guess but reading it in 2020 I had to first shake off thoughts of the UN we all love to criticise.

The United Nations are a product of WWII and so the term used already in Eisenhower`s address might have been used for purpose. Till today Germany and Japan are defined as enemy states and can be subjects to enforcement actions without authorization of the Security Council. https://www.un.org/en/sections/un-charter/chapter-viii/index.html

Thanks Martin. I should have done my research before posting. Wikipedia (with source reference) tells us that 'During the war, "the United Nations" became the official term for the Allies. To join, countries had to sign the Declaration and declare war on the Axis.[20]'
I thought that the UN was somehow formed during the Yalta conference but that was only when Stalin managed to secure a permanent seat in the security council.
