Q: What to do when you just HAVE to paint a figure but lack sufficient funds to go on that on-line shopping spree, or lack the required patience to wait for the postal service to deliver those long awaited packages?
A: Get out the industrial strength degreaser/cleaner and give an old figure an overnight bath. In the morning, after a little scrub with an old toothbrush, voila! You have a brand new figure ready for re-interpretation.
This is a Pegaso 75mm Marcomanni Warrior that I originally did in about 2003. Stripped of its old paint job re-painted and re-based, it now holds a more honoured position in the display case. It worked out so well that I did the same thing to another of my old Pegaso 75mm kits, but this time I took some "before" photos to post along with the new and improved version when I'm done.

Great job. Removing the figure from the base without destroying it would be the biggest challenge to redoing old figures. How did you do it?

Hi Glenn. I've been thinking of redoing a few of my old classic Poste Militaire figures and will probably do my Batu Khan and see how it goes.
This Marcommanic warrior really stands the test of time and you've done it justice. I've had it half finished for an eternity. Perhaps it's time to spend a couple of sessions getting it done.

The secret is to have done a terrible job fixing it to the original base at the start. After 15 years, it just pops off! I didn't start pining my figures to the base until a few years later.

Thanks Derek. I found the whole exercise to be pretty satisfying, giving this a new look and taking advantage of the some of the lessons I've learned over the years. Helps to keep the brushes wet if nothing else. Hope you and all of my Scottish friends are keeping yourselves safe and healthy.

Excellent painting Glenn. Some I am working on at the moment have been through the dettol bath a couple of times. Getting better - slowly.
