I couldn’t resist starting this 1/35 project, been thinking about it a while supported by my visit to the Warwickshire Yeomanry museum; depicting the Charge at Huj (Palestine) 8th Nov 1917.

The combined units of 190 Worcestershire and Warwickshire Yeomanry cavalry attacked Turkish defended Austro Hungarian field guns, Howitzer and machine guns with thousands of Ottoman infantry. With hunting horns sounding the charge, flashing blade in hand; the brave Yeomanry rode into battle, almost a replica of the charge of the light brigade during the Crimea war some 70yrs earlier. Only a handful of horses and men survived the charge unscathed but in doing so broke the resolve of the Ottoman forces, the battle was won.

The Charge at Huj was the last great unsupported cavalry charge, the end of an era.

The 1/35 scene is a work in progress.

Another superb piece. The charge of the Light Horse at Beersheba is reasonably well known, this charge much less so. As a result of Beersheba, some of the Light Horse were armed wwith sabres as well!

Thank you, in a shorter war this battle would be well known historically, with the focus on the western front it’s but a footnote in the history books. The Charge at Hùj has similar traits of heroism and fame to that of the charge of the light brigade during the Crimean war, an end of an era for the British cavalry.

    Hi Marcus

Thank you for posting this piece

So much work and very skilful modelling in all areas , I do like the way the figures work well together , individual pieces with a story , all together telling the story ....

Love the falling yeoman and the officer ...was the red on the collar a regimental distinction

Like the base with the map as well

You do IMO show what the hobby of modelling is all about

    Look forward to seeing more

    Happy benchtime

    Stay safe

I am always impressed about the way you are capable to animate and convert Plastic Figures and the way you present these scenes as a diorama. Could you tell what kits you used to create your figures in this scene?

Thanks mate, it’s a pleasure to share on PF and your nice comments are appreciated. It’s great to learn about our collective history and model that so others can learn and be inspired to find out more about the subject.

The red on the collar (from what I can find out) is officer specific with the tropical tunic WW1, I’m not sure if that would be worn in battle but can’t find anything specific saying it wouldn’t have been, and makes it obvious with pistol he is not a trooper. The white horse he is riding will be complimented by a black coloured horse on the opposite side followed by a dark bay.

The map idea I think works and turns a dead area of the model into something complimentary to the overall story.

    Thanks again. :)

    Thank you Martin,

The base figures are mostly 1/35 ICM from their Gallipoli set with some miniart arms, some really nice details in those ICM figures. I then add Hornet heads and change those to be unique. Other details are scratch made.

The Horses are mostly Masterbox from the US cavalry set, you have to reinforce pin the supporting legs as the can be brittle during transportation.

The field gun is from Emhar, but converted from the nA96 to the Krupp75mm

A great piece as always with your work, Marcus. Great planning & execution of the diorama, backed up by meticulous research, imaginative choice of base kits & superb animation & painting. As Nap says, your work is what the hobby is all about & I always enjoy seeing your posts on here.
    Simply brilliant, thanks for sharing.

    Imp0as ever.

One thing...( definitely not a criticism) the trooper at rear doing the acrobatics as he hits the deck, his sword would I think look great if it appeared somehow to be still in the air......

Thanks Malc, I had thought about doing something with his sword, might insert the tip just into the ground as if just touching down. I’m not sure if you noticed I animated his pistol to show the fall/tumble.
