I saw this on Facebook . Very interesting and as a lot of us have much more time on our hands it might be worth a try . It's a bit of a long video but try and watch until the end

    enjoy and stay safe

Well the title is misleading as it also includes white and black.

I've seen portraits painted using burnt umber, ultramarine blue, and titanium white. Can easily paint skin with just those three.

I think it is because Black and White are not actually classified as colours . But it's still bloody amazing ;)

Thanks Chippy, the artist is truly amazing... I have been using burnt umber and white oils, which works reasonably well... For my standard anyways.. will have to give this a try...

Black and white dont really exist in light but at paint they are usually more a blue or red colour. That's why some black colours can be used well to make blues and why titanium white (a blue bias colour) can muddy reds.

This is a useful vid for colour in general if you're going down the whole colour mixing rabbit hole.

    And the follow up.

Just for exercise, I painted a figure with titanium white, yellow ochre and cobalt purple only. That goes mostly ok but with no separate shadow colour, I found it difficult to avoid too much colour saturation in the shadows. Anyhow, my start for flesh tones is tit white and yellow ochre, optional with some burnt sienna if I want it more pinkish (maybe I'm influenced by all the Asian skin around me?).

The video was an interesting view. I admire the artist's ability and the result.

Curiously, the mixing was done with the brush, rather than by palette knife.

Thanks for sharing the video, Chippy.

I believe Felix (Yellowcat) has removed his content from PF. I think he will share it person to person if contacted by PM.

Dear Yellowcat, I don’t know how to send you a PM. It must sound silly, but I really don’t. Thank you in advance, Jim

Jimbow, if you click on his avatar (the little picture of Toshiro Mifune,) a small window will open and overlay this page. In that window, you will see a number of options, including "Start a conversation". That is our private message (PM) feature.

    Hope that helps, prost!
