    Hi Nap,
I was admiring your Zulu again and went back to the sbs. Could you go into a little more detail on how you made the feathers or plumes? I'm currently working on a 75mm American Indian figure and would like to add some small feathers that would be about 1/2" long. I not sure I can pull it off but have hankering to give it a shot, Thanks for any help.

    Hi Wayne

Thanks for the comment ...feathers .....

Using 2 part magic sculpt ....mix together ( I used slightly more hardener than resin)

roll out to about 1-2mm ..let the putty Ho nearly off

    cut out basic feather shape

Using a wire to create the central vane press into putty

    Remove vane if you wish

Using a sculpting tool create the flights at a angle upwards on each side

Tidy up edges .,.I added slight indents

Fold sides slightly over , use a former to shape

    Once 99% dry position

Once fully hardened I put the vane back in

For the reverse I used JS texture paste and a old flat brush

Finally get the swear jar out before you start !!

    Hope this helps

    Stay safe

    Thanks Nap,
Not experienced in making feathers at this scale. Use Magic Sculpt and Apoxie sculpt. Like all your suggestions and much appreciated. What did you use as a base so you could peel it off and lift it? so you could do the other side as both sides will be seen in my case. I don't like the texture paste; I prefer a slurry of sculpting putting mixed to a slurry to texture wool and now I'm thinking it might work with feathers. Thanks for your explanation to spark my thinking.
    Regards and stay safe,

    Hi Wayne

No worries ..for a base I used a small cake decorators rolling pin ( curtesy SWMBO ) after putting vasaline on surface , also did the same on my work mat ...I left it to virtually dry before doing the back

The slurry mix would work just as well

    Stay safe
