    Hi Everybody

    Bit of an update on this fellow ....using these colours and plenty of washes of similar colours in WSO !!!

    image.jpeg

    ...we are at this stage

    WIP 008.jpg WIP 010.jpg WIP 009.jpg

    I find it sometimes a little hard not to over highlight so taking this slowly

    The skin on Zulu has a sheen normally so will be "trying for thet look"

    STOP PRESS: ref feathers ...they arrived ....1 hour later after much snipping and cutting I picked the remnants all up from the floor ......never worked ...so will be having a go at feathers with putty !!!!

    Another really good ref image.jpeg

    Hi Kev Not that I've tried it, but didn't Ivo have a nifty way of making feathers using some copper sheet which was cut to shape with scissors and then had putty added to bulk up the centre? Looked top notch when painted (as with most of his stuff) :rolleyes: Anyway might be worth a look . . .?
    Don't give up mate it's looking great so far (y)
    Cheers

    Love the flesh colour Nap and the paint ref. I have no idea what I am talking about Nap but any fake plastic type fern things from fish tanks you could cut/reshape/glue/use/paint. Not this one in general but you get the idea

    hi Nap

    good job...

    feathers look good but why you didn't do them directly on the bust? ostrich feathers are very soft and part enter one in the other. sculpt all the group give you advantages of realism

    Damn well I'd say.

    What method did you use (scribe into putty or what?)

    May be too late for this model, but here's a cheap and cheerful way of making feathers:

    -Cut a length of fuse wire, slightly longer than the desired length of the feather;
    -Cut a strip of paper slightly wider than the intended width of the feather and twice its length, then fold it in half, narrow end to narrow end;
    -Insert the wire between the leaves of the paper strip and glue together. When set the paper can be stiffened using PVA or varnish;
    -Then cut the paper to produce the feather shape leaving the end of the wire as the quill. You can cut notches and suchlike into the feather at this stage;
    -Then paint. Extra textures can be added with a brush at this stage.

    The feather will take some gentle bending. For larger figures, you could substitute the metal sheet from an empty tomato puree tube for the paper. Be sure to give it a rubbing down with a blunt object to get all the creases, etc out. Kitchen foil also works.

    Have a go, let me know what you think.

    Hi Richard

    Thanks for the post going to leave it with what you see below but have kept the details for future ..thanks

    Very Iffyvision pic

    Took off side feathers and used PE at each side

    image.jpeg

    Might go for a black centre with white feathers each side with black falling side ones ....all suggestions welcome

    Going to work on the flesh a bit more ...highs and the lips !

    Thanks for looking in

    Happy benchtime

    Stay safe
