We all know busts are not your thing which of course your choice but this is a good subject full of character based on a real guy as well using 3D sculpting ...so good detail on the capband

I think I've seen another sculpt of this subject from other company's as well

This looks like Robin Williams when he played Popeye.

I think he looks super, this is one for my list, he brings back happy memories of my childhood seeing the Popeye cartoons on the old B&W TV.

Yes, unfortunately, at the same time, two different companies managed to hit the same topic. This can also happen. Interestingly, the European firm presents Popeye as an American sailor. Conversely, an American company will offer British Popeye. I wish for both to have success. Especially for painters and lovers of busts.
Geoff Charman and Nap like this.
  11. The bust that I present is made over a year ago, I put an ad in this same forum, the announcement will be here

Yes, Tartar Miniatures, "English Leading Stoker WWII". Be tween the two, it comes down to whether or not you prefer English or American subject. Both equally good renditions of Popeye.

Again I start by stating that this (and the Empire version) are both great and characterful sculpts... and let's hear it for Sergey's earlier version as well :)).

I suspect that this is mainly a matter of source material.

Empire have used a photo of an unknown British stoker (original in Imperial War Museum) and I suspect may not have recognised the fouled anchor as a RN rank badge, see:
    https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205135301

Sergey used the same ref but correctly titles his as an un-named Leading Stoker with no reference to Popeye:

Dolman have used another photo, clearly in a USN style rig, identified as Lawrence P Arnold (in fact another Brit), as restored by Johnny Sirlande*, see:

Neither is Frank Feigel, the real inspiration for Popeye (and not even a sailor):

*Sirlande, based in Belgium, specialises in restoring and colourising old photos, many of military subjects: see below:
