After admiring BULL's Desert Rat figure, he stated that many of us have this figure in the bottom drawer and we should try our own interpretation of it. Well that got me motivated! https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/desert-rat.79908/page-2#post-1025860

Found him! He had generously donated his head to another project years ago.

A little while later with new hornet head, scarf, beard, shemagh, agal and wings insignia on left breast.

I thought I had a British pistol holster to add, but I can't find one.

My apologies to the 2 or 3 other projects I pushed aside tonight for this.

He kind of looks like this guy, no?

A little tweaking before the putty dries.

Came home from work and started slopping some paint around. I know a lot of you guys can do a face in one sitting, but I'm not that guy. ;)

IMG_3705.JPG A bit more progress. Looks splotchy in the pic but not at all in normal life. Any tips on any areas I should fix? Looks like I missed something under the mustache.

    Hi Chazman

A great choice of donor figure for the subject choice , the head works well on him......and I see a medal ribbon as well below the wings

    Following with interest

It's weird. I rotated the pics on my computer 90* to correct and uploaded and they appeared sideways the other way. Then I rotated them to appear normal and uploaded again and viola! There must be something going on between my phone, laptop and this site decoding these pics. Who knows!

Anyway, thanks to BULL and this site for inspiration on finding this guy again and giving him a new life. Otherwise, he'd be in spare parts box purgatory for years. Also, I have realized that these enlarged pics help me see things I can no longer see with just my Optivisor.

Chazman I am really happy that you followed my proposal, and I really like the idea of conversion that you started to undertake.
I am sure you will have a lot of fun with this figure, simple as a whole, but that allows you to work a lot on the drapery and skin tones.
    Go big!

Thanks, I think he's going to fun little project. I do have a couple of Waffen SS guys who may be upset they've been pushed to the back of the bench, though. :)

Well, good thing I posted John Rosengrant's piece for comparison. His shemagh looks like cloth, mine looks as thick as a down comforter. I had considered removing the whole thing and starting over. But instead, I took a new X-acto blade as started carving. Lots of repainting and touch ups tomorrow.

    Hi Chaz

Blimey that's drastic ...getting the knife out .....still best to do it now rather than when you've got further

All part of modelling eh !!

    Look forward to updates

    Happy benchtime

Oh yeah, that's modelling! Also, once seen it cannot be unseen. Maybe that's why I have a small army of of half done figures. LOL!

Beautiful piece, Chazman. I like the additions of the Fairbairn-Sykes dagger & the box of Vickers K magazines, helps to give a sense of time & place to the figure.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I'm glad you guys noticed the the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife. I just completed him about 5 minutes. I'll post pics tomorrow. Time for bed.
