    Hi All,
I have always admired the Dog's Life series of figures but nothing fell into my period until now and it was certainly worth the wait. You wait long enough and two come along together.

    CD.jpg

The two 75mm kits are marketed under the brand Castle Miniatures and sculpted by Vladimir Danilov.

I waited with such anticipation to get my hands on these and I was not disappointed. The sculpting, engineering, casting and service are all 10 out of 10. There is some exquisite detail sculpted in and also cast. The anatomy on all is sublime, I am always a fan of someone who can sculpt realistic animals and these two snarler's are as realistic as they come.

You can just tell that these will fit together like a dream. Kudos Vladimir they are :cool::cool::cool::cool:.

My biggest dilemma will be how to present them to show them off at their best. My mate Pete of Pete's bases will be getting another order very soon.

Would I recommend....most certainly, I would love to have these two sets under my own brand.
    cheers
    Richie

Nice review there Richie both models look great. I hope they expand on the cat's life selection, I would love to see a French hussar with a cat on campaign like in the movie The Duellists.

Both superb, but surely the 'cat' is an hyena?

Apparently, Mike, Hyenas are more closely related to cats than dogs - confusing...but there it is. Great review, Ritchie, of yet
more exquisite figures from Alex and Volodya. (Something new is brewing, by the way, so another of your reviews soon..eh?)

I had a feeling you would snap this pair up when they were released, right up your street and quality figures.

    Cheers

Interesting pair and superb work (as with all of this range).

I must admit that when I first saw them I wondered about the native having a hyena, which as I understand it are pretty-well untamable, when there are native doggie options, notably Ridgebacks (precursors to today's Rhodesian Ridgebacks) and the various strains of Africanis, both domesticated in Southern Africa prior to European incursion.

There are always exceptions (and note that most of these examples are heavily muzzled). In fact there was a nature documentary some time ago about an African village that feeds the local hyenas, I suspect that the two night-time photos are from there. In general though, they were/are not domesticated and in many African cultures are equated with death, evil, witchcraft and so on.

My point is simply that having a hyena is far from typical.

I agree Neil unconventional but a nice sculpt none the less. I too would have liked to see the Africanis with this figure but the Hyena work's just as well. There is also the added advantage of painting the Hyena in one of 4 distinctive styles. Regardless of personal preferences the two kits as previously stated are 10 out of 10 across all aspects.

    Hi Richie,

Totally agree (as said) about the interest value and sculpt and, yes 10/10 as with all of this Dog's Life (man's best friend?) series :)

... and yes, 2nd set of pics much better (but still can't quite make out if he's circumcised: I think most tribes are/were :inpain: )

    Have a good weekend (y)
