Little update ,almost finished ; close to basing up.

Camera still blowing all the highlights and making the subject glossy , but it is matt apart from the bronze part of the helm , tried all sorts of exposure but all naff .

Very nice job, so far. I like it.

BTW there is a free-o program you could take a look at - Irfanview. It's lets you manipulate your photos any which way you want. I think the "gamma correct" would help your shot. But it really does *a lot.*
Also I have no financial affiliation with it - just a happy user. HTH

    Hi Ron

You may think the pics aren't good but your painting certainly is ,those reds are great , like the helmet crest especially

Be interested in how you aporoached those reds ..Oils I presume ?

This was of course sculpted by Matt Grech ...I do wish he would sculpt more often .....I have this in the GA casting is very good indeed

Didn't fancy giving him a hairy chest then ...lol ( I remember Adrian Hopwood ion that for a article in a Mil Modelling Special)

    Thanks for sharing

    Happy benchtime

    HI Kevin

The reds are done with a base coat of acrylic , generally Andrea NAC 34 . Oils are Old Holland Scheveningen red light ( a very opaque hue which covers really well ) highlights are with WN Cad red ,and Cad orange with a little Nap yellow added to the latter , the nap yellow is a very old tube at least 30 years old so you probably won't get that now in this form.
Shading is with WN Vert oxide again a very opaque and useful green .

I tend to apply my oils these days in thin coats diluted with pure turpentine wet on dry for the highs and lows .

    Ron

pS the acrylic red undercoat is not really that important most shades of red will suffice

    Hi Ron

Thanks for details on the reds appreciate the info

Apparently your bust is a Laconian Hoplite this was the hairy version of the ElGreco Spartan which I think Adrian painted ...need to find that Mil Mod special !!!

    image.jpeg

..so maybe no rug needed ...LOL

    Nap

PS it's this one I have not yours ...tempted !!!!
