I got this FeR 1/12th bust from El Greco this morning so as the wife had gone into town I started him.

    P1140015 (2).JPG

It is a lovely smooth bust with very minimal cleaning up, so after that I drilled the holes for the brass rod and kebab skewers that I use for holding while painting, then I washed and dried him before priming.

Looked on the web to get some reference and found these couple of pics I liked.

    Tarleton (2).jpg Tarleton Legion (2).jpg

Just primed the bits after fixing the right arm in place.

I love the detailing on the Tarleton Helmet.

    P1140017 (2).JPG

I shall probably give the primer a couple of hours to dry then add some colour to the face.

Thanks Guys pleased to have you aboard, I must admit I had permission to get it, as well as getting stuff at Yeovil but had to do a lot of sorting out first.

    Cheers
    Geoff.

Base colours blocked in and Citadel Nuln Oil Shade added to various areas to give the deep areas before more thinned paint applied.

The plume on the helmet I am pleased with, it has just had two coats of Nuln Oil Shade over the grey primer.

    Cheers

Very nice Geoff. What did you use for the gold lace & helmet insignia?

Many thanks Chris, I use Vallejo MC 877/126 Gold Brown as a base.
I still have to use Citadel Agrax Earthshade to bring out the deep detail then I shall use Bronze lightly followed by a picking up detail light touch up of Old Gold.

    Cheers

Thanks Bob and Nap, it does look good larger, even if I say it myself, thanks for doing that mate.

I think it should be at Yeovil but I am trying to take my time doing him.

    Cheers

Looks great Geoff. Always liked this uniform. I think I will try that nuln oil technique. Did you do black or grey primer.

Many thanks, it's a mid grey automotive acrylic primer in a rattle can.

    Today's progress.
More work on the helmet and feather, a mix of satin and gloss varnishes, a mix as I don't like the satin finish, too matt.
The crest, etc given light coats of bronze, old gold and gold.
The plume over the helmet given dry brush of the varnish mix and then when dry a light dry brush of burnt sienna artist's oils.

    P1140019 (2).JPG

P1140020 (2).JPG Some more to do on this, but pleased with it so far.

The uniform given a coat of khaki on the high areas then more thinned coats of thinned Forest Green, thinned metallic shades added to the buttons and lacing.

    P1140022 (2).JPG

I shall now leave it to fully dry to see which areas need further work.

I had a good day and managed quite a bit,
    Helmet now finished,

    P1140025 (3).JPG P1140026 (2).JPG

Face painted in Artist's oils, the wig I painted and detailed a few days ago.

    P1140023 (2).JPG P1140024 (2).JPG

And the hand and cuff with flintlock pistol painted in nearly all Artist's oils. Still more to do to this part once the paint has dried.

    P1140029.JPG P1140027.JPG

    That's it for today.

If its Tarleton himself then there should be 2 fingers missing from his right hand? Would make it a bit different!

Thanks Ian, the info is interesting but I will keep him as just an Officer of the Legion as I have now painted that hand.

Thanks a lot Nap the khaki I used was from a set of British AFV WW2 paints from Hataka and it was Khaki Green, nice paint and I thinned it down quite a bit.
I am really pleased with the helmet too.

I think what Ian means is IF I wanted it to be Sir Banastre Tarleton himself and not just what the bust is that of just an officer.

Yes it will be at both shows mate.

    Cheers
