I saw this lovely bust on here and thought this would be an interesting bust to do, yellow tunic instead of the usual scarlet.
Purchased it from Matt at El Greco and was very pleased with it when I opened the box.

Minimal cleaning up, then washed and primed him and then after leaving him overnight I started painting the base coat on the lacing and belts before going out for Sunday lunch.

I like using Silver Grey instead of white as a base, white is too stark in my view.

    Cheers
    Geoff.

In light of the other posting for this bust, it will be interesting to see comparisons as they progress.

Interesting about using silver grey rather than white as that acts as a mid tone (if it's pure white you hav eno high tones to go to).

Thanks, I have seen many different pics showing various yellows I don't think there will be a true one painted plus what with sun bleaching, washing and general wear and tear.

Some lining out with a darker colour for the yellow tunic colour and the red facing colour.

I totally agree with you about fading, dye variations.etc. Geoff, but I was interested which yellow paints you would be using. Yelloww has always been a nemesis for me. I'm getting better and I am always interested in pallets that other painters use. I have the MMM 44th 200mm drummer to do as well as two drummers from the 28th. Hence my interest.

A bit more progress for today, filling in the tunic colours, all Vallejo.

Thinned Flat Red for the collar and after I used Flat Yellow for the main part of the tunic I thought it was too bright so I added some Gold Brown and thinned it down a bit and I am now happier with this colour as the illustration in Ugi Pericoli book show the yellow facing colour a touch browner than other regiments yellow facing colours.

    This from the book.

And these are what I have done so far.

That yellow shade looks spot on from the cheap seats here Geoff, nice & vibrant, as are the scarlet facings. Excellent work so far!

My God, it's hard to keep up with you. :) I need to get back to painting, as I'm starting to feel a bit inadequate. Anyway, lovely work Geoff! (y) Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.

    as

Many thanks Ken and Ark, I only do about six hours a day in the "Hanger", none on the odd day the wife wants me to go out.

I think I have a different method of painting than most as I keep getting messages about me being speedy. I think I don't apply the same number of layers as some do after watching modellers painting at shows as they just look as if they are just applying coats of water, there doesn't seem to have any pigment in it at all. Still I'm happy the way I do things and that's what matters.

    Cheers
