In researching for a figure I am putting together; 'Officer 69th Regt. Light Company' by Mitches Military Models,
I stumbled across this piece of research.

It's a comprehensive list of private soldiers and NCO s commissioned in wellington's army.

I have not seen it listed here before, apologies if I am double posting in some way.

Although each is by nature a potted biography it is reassuring to see how many men where actually
promoted on merit and not just by purchase of rank as is popularly believed to be the norm.

I am hoping that this information could inspire some of us to be able to put an actual name to
some of the wonderful figure kits we buy.

It has for me, I am going to portray my figure as:-
Henry Oldershaw, Ensign 69th foot 10 June 1812, promoted from Serjeant-Major;
Lieutenant 3 February 1814; served at Waterloo;
Quartermaster in 33rd Foot 3 August 1832;
still serving in 1842

Great stuff Paul - thanks for the link - bookmarked. Interesting to see that a few regiments have a bunch of promotions and others only one or two - suppose this might indicate how elitist the officer class was in each.
