Carl, yep one interpretation is that Sax, a type of long stone sword was the where the term Saxon was derived from:

Thanks Mitsutaka I've been impressed by your work posted here too and would love to be as fast as yourself in painting. I'm typically slow, however trying to get this one finished for an upcoming show so should have it completed in a couple of weeks, though may not get the final photos up until next month.
