Thought I would shift down here with this, and show where I am now. This is an attempt to get a couple of decent figures out of an ICM 1/35th French Infantry set, and the only the second and third figures I have done since in my teens. I have been working on them for a while, and earlier stages, including assembly (which required some modification) and groundwork, can be found here:

I decided I was not happy with the eyes, and had over-bronzed the skin. So I stripped color off the eyes with a toothpick (down to the tough white primer), and re-did them. I used sage green paint for irises on the clean-shaven figure, and dark brown for irises on the mustachioed figure. I did little dots for pupil with a toothpick. A lot of futzing about was involved, including removing bits of paint as often as adding them. I went over the face with various flesh tones, mixed as above in a large 'pool' of varying shades. I tried to keep it thin, a glaze rather than a coat. I also put on the buttons, and belt buckles, and the red tabs on the collar....

The first three pictures are in outdoor sunlight, but not direct sunlight:

I am still holding off on putting on the kepis, in case it seems the eyes can be improved, since I suspect once the brim is on over them, getting at them will be pretty difficult.

But it does seem to be getting close to finish....
