Since this is supposed to be brutal honesty, here goes. First I think you've done a lovely job of painting a fine figure:)! The only thing I can see to criticise is the positioning of the rifle. IMO it needs to be more snugly into the shoulder. It only shows up in a couple of photo's.
    Best wishes, Gary.

Nice one Rompy, another cracker. I agree with Gary, the rifle looks a little unbalanced but I would never have noticed if it hadn't already been mentioned.

    Good job (y)

I think you did a bang up job on this one Rompy (y)! The colors and shading are very well rendered as is the ground work. The only detail that looks odd to me (other than the rifle thing), is the black interior of his tea mug. I reckon he never rinsed it out :yuck:!

Like how you paint the figure. I should go for more contrast into the face.
the rifle is said before me.

I think it must be a squaddie trait, the inside of my tea mug was always dark brown/black. It adds to the flavour, a bit like not cleaning your barbecue rack after using it. Tea from a clean mug just doesn't taste the same ;)

Not a criticism I know, but this makes me think of the poem:
Good morning, good morning the General said,
As we met him last week on our way to the line,
Now the soldiers he smiled at are most of them dead,
And we're cursing his staff for incompetent swine,
He's a cheery old card, said Harry to Jack,
As they trudged up to Arras wi' rifle and pack,

But he did for them both with his plan of attack!
