Hi guys,

Just some pics of my latest project, depicting a bust of my Grandad, when he was a young soldier in the Royal Corps of Signals, based in Shanghai, as part of the Shanghai Defence Force in 1927. For a long time I have had the photo on my wall and have long wanted to make a model of some sort.

Based on a Tommy's War kit, the mods have included reshaping the Wolseley helmet with addition of Signals flash, adding more length to the upper arms to include the brassard, reshape the collar and add collar dogs, alter the face slightly, reshape pocket flaps and add new buttons. all mods done using Milliput/Duro.

All painted in acrylics, thanks for looking,

Ok, Mick - it's this photo. My grandad is the small guy, sixth from the left, back row, next to the tall chap! Unfortunately, its the only pic of him in China at the time....

Very nice work on this bust....

Cheers Nap - its a basecoat of Vallejo buff, with shadows mixed with Burnt Umber and highlights mixed with ivory, with a thin glaze of Beige to tie it all together!

That aint a bad likeness either of the old boy.

Thanks for all the comments, guys! I do have a few more photos taken at the time and when he was stationed in Delhi, but they are very small (2" square) and when enlarged, lose a lot of definition, unfortunately. The large photo is the only one I could really work with and even that wouldnt stand too much scrutiny!
