    Hey All

Started a new piece tonight... A Sardinian Grenadier circa 1741, a 54mm from Chronos Miniatures. A nice sculpt (though the cast was kind of bubbly) and what seems to be a very obscure unit... after a week of searching the weeb and my own library, I came up with a grand total of one, 1, single uniform plate, that appears to be the model for the sculpt.

That being said, I will carry on regardless.

I have completed the face so far. the following pics progress from base colour with first highs and lows sketched out...

    Washes...

And finally, hair blocked in to gauge the tone of the skin.

The skin tones are done with Vallejo Acrylics as follows:

    Base- Beige Red
    Highlights- Base + Light Flesh
Shade- Base + Burnt Cadmium Red

Washes- Vermillion (cheeks, nose, chin and forehead) Royal Purple (eyes, temples and lower cheeks).

Throughout this project, I'm going to try to track each step and record the mixes for anyone interested.

As always, comments, critiques, hints, thoughts or ideas are most welcome and encouraged.

    Thanx for looking in

    Colin

I have two activities... Painting and bike building. When my body hurts I paint, when it doesn't, I build. Needless to say, I do a lot more painting than building.

    A very nice start.
I note that you've only come across one reference for the uniform, but while looking through some Knotel prints I came across this:-

I realise it's 1758, but everything seems similar to the figure.

    Hi Colin,
That's a nice subject and its coming along really well. If you get a chance look at a couple of clips on YouTube of Dave Youngquist from last cavalry. He has some good tutorials on painting the face and he uses some similar colours as you have with Vallejo and some Andrea. Just thought it may be of some interest.
    Regards
    Chris.
