    Hi Guys,

A commission piece for a friend of mine, depicting his father during his National Service. This guy was a medic with the Paras so has a Red Beret and wings and will have the Pegasus patches on his battledress, with RAMC shoulder flashes.

Still a lot to do to bring up the highlights on the face and some delicate painting needed on Pegasus!

Hope you like it, so far!

Just as an aside to this - does anyone know what colour the lanyard on his right shoulder should be? References say cherry red, but on the B and W photo, it seems much lighter, almost sky blue or yellow....?!(y)

I think the RAMC wore sky blue off the top of my head. I'll have a look through some books. I like this did you sculpt it as well?

Thanks for the input guys - Ill try to scan the original pic so that you can see what I mean. maybe it's the silky material which makes it look lighter...

Scotty - yes, my sculpt too!(y)

Thanks for the references, chaps! I think Ill go with the red, must be a trick of the light!(y)

In fact, Ive just imported your image into Photoshop and changed it to greyscale, and voila! it turns light grey/white - mystery solved!!!

    I like this Steve.
A great idea to sculpt a National Serviceman in view of how many blokes were called up.
Nice to see the ginger hair and matching freckles look on the face. Are you able to share the original photo of the soldier.
Plenty of patches an badges to brighten up the khaki.
I've got your original piece moulded and just need to sort out the cap badges.
    Cheers

    Lol!
I think there was a character called 'Ginger' on a Bridge too Far who came to a sticky end after trying to retrieve a canister full of berets.

Good to see a medic getting some recognition. My Dad was in the RAMC in WW2, 179 Field Ambulance, 11th Armoured Division.

I know 23PFA wore the coloured lanyard in the '80's. And they obviously wore one post WW2.
