    Hello fellow Planeteers:
OK, I'll admit I just don't seem to really understand how to search
for specifics on the internet. I spent over an hour yesterday trying to
find details about the French Infantry uniform from the Franco
Prussian War, 1870-71. Saw a lot of colour pictures, renderings, but
none of them were the kind of help I'm looking for. I'm working on
a infantryman from the old ICM 1:35th scale figure set of four.
My question is in regards to the buttons on the leggings or
white spats that was part of the infantryman's uniform. What were
these button made from. Would they be white such as with Ivory
buttons. Or were they shiny metal, i.e. chrome steel, copper, etc.
I hope you can supply the answer, so I can finish painting
this figure correctly. Kind regards, The Miami Jayhawk

Oh my gosh, Martin. . . thank you so much for solving that
problem. Yes, the photo clearly shows that the buttons are
indeed white. Hummmm, carved from horn. Excellent!

I appreciate your imput so much Martin. This web site is
really such a great collection of concerned and talented
artists. My best regards to you, Sir. And thanks again.

    Hey Rich Sculpts: Ah . . . . OK. . . sorry mate, . . .but I'm
still in the dark. . . Could you be more specific as in talking
to a nine year old. Gee, I just wish I could get a grasp of all
this new technology. . . Does being 75 yrs. mean I have to
remain in the dark??? Yes, I can still drive. . . and I know
where the grocery store is, the post office, the licker store.
what ever. . . . But it can be rather daunting. . . . The old
idea is to get an 8 yr. old kid to show me the ropes and
explain it to me. . . Duh! In my neighborhood, everyone
is very old. . . there are no 8 yr. old kids to ask squat.

Yeh well. . . . So it is on to the next thing. At least I
now know that the buttons were carved from bone. So
they would be off white. . . . zzzzzzzzzz
