Hi guys,I have finished painting the face of my sculpt of Maori Chief Hori Kingi Te Anaua. The sculpt is a 1/9th scale bust. The moko is finished(tattoo).I still have work to do on his jacket, shirt and Kaitaka(cloak). It has alot of work to be done to complete it .As I have mentioned before in an earlier posting, the contrast between European dress of the Victorian era and Maori culture inspired me to do the sculpt.I have thoroughly enjoyed not only the sculpting and painting of the bust, but also the research on Hori Kingi Te Anaua.Hope you like him so far.

    Regards,John

    Hi John,

Mate this is one of the most impressive pieces of sculpting and painting I've EVER seen. I can only stare in amazement and admiration at the complexity of the te moko. The thing that really seals it for me is the proud, dignified but baleful look in his eyes. Simply superb.

Terrific work, John. You've brought out the best in the sculpt with your painting. I also like the contrast between the moko and the suit. Congrats on a fine piece!

Oh WOW John!!! This is beautiful. I love the way you have captured the look of him. The Moko is spot on, not an easy thing to do. Best of luck in the shows ( though I dont think you need it). Is this a one off?
