June 6th 1944, 101st airborne trying to find out where they are.

I was looking at Shep Paine's boxed dios and thought that I had to have a go. The idea is that early morning on 6th June the 101st airborne, or atleast various ad hoc groups from the 101st, have found an old barn somewhere in Normandy. They need to get to Carenton, and a member of the local Maquis is trying to help them find thier way. I hope you like it. The figures are from various supplies, much modified and fitted with Hornet heads. It is at 1/35th scale

The lighting is all small LEDs powered by 9v batteries

Super scene, beautifully built and painted.

Without wanting to take away from the wonderful build.

I would argue that any light at all shown that night, attracted the sustained mg fire of nervous and jumpy defenders, and it's
A little unlikely the lads would crowd into such a doorway making themselves backlit to the enemy but would simply
get under a poncho with their red filtered torch lens to check a map, but I love it all.

Mr Pew Thanks a lot for taking the time to comment

    Chris You are most kind

Ed Thank you , I did approach this like a set design problem. Thinking about volumes, colour and sight lines make this type of project really absorbing.

Viking Bob Good to see you mate thanks a lot.

Paul You are right about the lighting but then I figured you had to be able to see a inside. I did think about and bought some fibre optic cable for smaller lights and might still add some.

    Adrian Very kind thanks

    Pedro Thanks much appreciated

Osebor That's praise indeed. Still some work to go but really enjoyed following in the master's steps.

Thanks for all the great comments. I am still tinkering with this scene. I have one or two more figures to add and definitely more dirt and muck on the floor.

Really wonderful scene, very thoughtfully and creatively put together. I love the cutaway barn shaped aperture for the frame, genius! I also like the moonlit effect seen through the window and the colour contrast between the warm lighting inside and cool blue colours outside gives a great mood to your diorama. We'll done.
    Cheers

That is a wonderful piece of work. It is very well thought out. Did you have any references that were helpful in doing a box diorama?

Jay Thanks mate good to hear from you
Mat Complementing blue and yellow lighting is a bit of a classic, but thanks very much for commenting.
Ken Very kind of you and much appreciated
Jaybo Thanks I have always been a fan of Shep Paine's work and that is what set me off on this project. Ultimately a lot of trial and error led me to where it is now.
Scott You are very kind' Of course Shep was always the master at this type of dio and reading his books was a great inspiration.
