This is a subject I love, The American Civil war. Having been involved in the re enactment hobby for some 10 years, I know a little bit more on the subject, which I am starting to paint. Over those years I poured through books, photos, read unit history's etc etc. So this is a figure from Fahrenheit miniatures, scale is 75mm. I have seen this painted up on You Tube but with mistakes, albeit minor one's.
What do you get...........a very well cast figure, with superb detail. I have made a start. lets get cracking.

I'm moving the cartridge box higher up , to fit more snug to the belt, and adding some smaller details.
    It is a lovely kit

Some of the improvements I have made. The cartridge box has been moved higher up towards the belt. If your moving around the box bangs against your backside when its full of ammunition (40 cartridges) its heavy. The box art shows the canteen strap as leather, thats wrong. if you look by his right shoulder you will see a loop, this is how soldiers shortened the strap to fit comfortable so that the canteen sits against the hip. It is made from white canvas. also added two sling swivels one in front of the trigger guard and the other by the 2nd band. He has been undercoated but will need another coat. the other thing is the Hardee hat. That is correct as shown by an original Hardee in the photo

    Hello Gary,
Yes, removing the button on the collar was the first thing I did on opening the box.
another undercoat applied, then on to the painting.
    Regards

His head is now attached , painted the hair and the shirt. Soldiers were issued with a white wool shirt, but I have gone for a private purchase civlian shirt, in a nice bright check.
The bayonet frog will need attention before attaching to the figure. I have taken the rivets off. This would have been stitched, making it an 1851 pattern. In 1859 there were 2 rivets and 7 rivets in 1863.
Having a rest now, for a day, prep for work.

Have the coat nearly finished and some of the accoutrements finished. I have decided to base the soldier on the 24th Michigan Regiment on the morning of the first day at Gettsbury at the Seminary. I have added a red circle to the hat which indicates Ist corps, 1st division. Army of the potomac as of 12th Janurary 1863.

I have this one primed and ready. I like to see how others approach the same figure. Zeno did an excellent job on this fig not long ago... you and he and the youtube video all have different techniques to achieve great results. I like to learn from others and gleen what I can to use with my own work.

Keep posting the different stages of your work with explanations of how and why, please. Your subtle changes in the uniform were interesting as well.

    Colin
