    Great review and information. The above chap is from a well known photo and part of the same group from KG Hansen. A colourised version shows him apparently wearing the pea camouflage smock but I'm not so sure it is. Zeltbahn perhaps? Or more liberated kit? Jon

    In my opinion, it is an early SS camo smock. There are some better resolution version of this photo on the internet, and they show very faint evidence of camo pattern. On his right forearm, there's the seam stitching undone. If you would look at the SS camo smock, that's where they have horizontal seams.
