and it's the first one I've painted :D. Designed & engraved by Andreas Trost & available from Fredericus Rex.

I started this today painting the easy part, the face. Next the difficult bits.

:) Cheers Jay, that helmet isn't the easiest thing to try and paint to appear 3D but we'll see how it goes.

    Looks great Roger,
My little advice: paint the upper and lower eyelid to the direction of the nose more skincolor to dark skin. Then you creating more depth into the eye.,.

This how far I've got today, I followed Marc's suggestion and although it doesn't show up too well in this pic the right eye looks a lot better, you'll just have to believe me. Cheers Marc. :)

I can see the difference when i download the pic's, and put them aside.
When the paint is dry, maybe turn again to this point.
    The metalwork is awesome.
What i have learned from a member in our club who paint's only flats he does the following.
When you have basecoat the flat with grey, he spray again very lite with a white color from the direction that the light is coming. This emphasise the changing of the colors from light to dark.
You can also take the digicam and light it with one bulb....take the picture and you can see where the shade's flow.
Keep going Roger, flat's are yours.

Thank you Marc. I was going to say you wouldn't believe how long it took me to be satisfied with the helmet and then I thought maybe you would :)

Glad you can see a difference in the eyes from earlier and I will try a little more as you suggest.

Thanks also for the tips, I'll try them. Whose tips are they and do they have a gallery on the AMSS site? I'll have a look see if I can guess! :)

Lovely work Roger. The shading on the helmet is wonderful and captures a very realistic 3D look.

Great work Roger. Presumably you paint the highlights and shadows to depict a directional light source, or are you following zenithal light principles??
