    Friday the Thirteenth!

On October 13, 1307, the French king, Philip IV ("The Beauty") ...

...... in his entire empire against the members of the religious order of the Knights of Christ and the Solomonic Temple at Jerusalem, which has become too great and powerful for him.

In addition, the King wants the legendary "treasure of the Templars", a supposedly huge hidden property!

The King's action against the Templars is guided by his most important adviser, Guillaume de Nogaret (1260-1313) ...:

    In the arrest warrant ...

... it is stated that it applies to all Templars without exception!

They ware to be imprisoned and entrusted to the judgment of the Church (capti tenantur et ecclesiae iudicio preserventur), to confiscate and retain their possessions and movable property (omnia bona sua mobilia and immobilia saisiantur et ad manum nostram saisita fideliter conserventur) to faithful Hands!

What stands not in the arrest warrant: With "faithful hands" Philip IV of course means himself ...

In the kingdom of the beauty Philipp, a total of 567 Templars are arrested and imprisoned, only in Paris they are 138!

After several investigations of the Holy Inquisition for many years, the majority of the Templars will be sentenced to death and executed ...:

The last Grandmaster of the Templars, Jacques de Molay...

... will be burned on the Ile de la Cité in Paris on 18 March 1314 as a heretic on the pyre ...:

At the place where this happened, today a bronze memorial plate is installed ...:

The legendary Templar treasure has not yet appeared and offers room for many speculations and conspiracy theories ...

The day of the mass arrest is a Friday and enters as a "black Friday" in the history.

We all know this date and we often remember it - although usually only unconsciously!

From the arresting action against the Templar Order on Friday, 13th October, 1307, comes - no kidding! - the view, which is still widely held today, that "Friday the Thirteenth" is a day of misfortune!

    BTW:
From "Pegaso" there exists a bust (1/10, Resin) that shows the last Templer Grandmaster Jacques de Molay on the pyre ...:

There are of course other theories about the origins of the Friday 13th superstition but not as interesting as this one.
    Thanks Martin. (y)
